Check out the Thunderbird Inn. It is an old-style hotel that they left true retro and refurbished. Coined as the hippest hotel in Savannah. A really cool place. http://www.thethunderbirdinn.com/ This message has been edited by Dano on 01-14-2018 at 09:47 PM |

Yes Ed, Lyann is making up the flip charts as I write this post. She said she would make them large enough for old people with limited eyesight to be able to read. I was thinking about you when she said that. LOL! Happy to hear you may join us. I think the ship tours will be the highlight other than both old towns. |

Lyann and I are still working out details. We will be leaving from Deland, FL and traveling north on less traveled roads. We'll have lodging figured out in Deland for those coming in early and something set up for dinner and maybe a cruise around the area. If you are not meeting in Deland, we will give you times and meeting places in Savannah, GA. Lodging in Savannah is very expensive and almost all have a daily valet fee for parking. Not ideal. So we will be staying a little north on Fri night closer to Hilton Head. All should be completed in 2 weeks or less (I hope). Stay tuned!!! Wally |

We were there about 4 years ago and I agree the tour of the sub and the carrier are excellent. |

We have stayed in Savannah, GA many times and used Priceline for hotels with great success. Typically the rooms that we stay at are 4 star and usually ran about $130-$150 per night. Some of the hotels will allow you to park your own car, although you still have to pay for parking anyway... |

Check tomorrow for booking info. Took a while to get decent lodging as it is a busy weekend both in Savannah and Charleston especially. Best we could do. See first post for booking info. This message has been edited by wallygator310 on 02-21-2018 at 09:48 AM |

For Fl group: We will be leaving from Deland, Fl on Thurs. morning (4/26) around 9am taking US17 north from Deland through the countryside then outside of Jacksonville and then on to Savannah and spend the day in Savannah. You can pick us up along the way as you desire. Should be in Savannah by 2PM. If you need lodging in Deland on Wed night there is a Comfort Inn that is good and close to our starting point. If you do come in Wed, we'll have something to do in the area w/dinner.
Charleston will be a lot of fun with the tours and the naval stuff at Patriots Point. We understand that their will be the blessing of boats in Charleston we think on Sat? There will be some driving on Fri and Sat as the lodging is about 1.5 hrs from Charleston. Wish we could have gotten closer lodging to Charleston, but because of the events in Charleston the city will be packed ( Spring Break, etc.) and the room rates were much more than what we normally find for the group and trying to reserve 15 rooms under a group almost impossible. Like I said before in the original post: Please let us know when you reserve so we can create an event list of attendees. Thanks This message has been edited by wallygator310 on 02-21-2018 at 10:08 AM |

Booked at the Fairfield for Wed-Sun. 2 rooms. They could not find the group rate, I figured I'd wait a few days and call them back to get things sorted. I noticed the Hotel info disappeared from the first post?? Steve |
