Update on dinner plans for August 14

For those of you attending the Gilmore museum portion of the event, I have arranged for dinner the evening before at Latitude 42 Brewing Company in Portage, MI. It is just south of Kalamazoo. and about an hour southwest of the Holiday Inn in Hastings. In addition to having a brewery onsite and lots of local beer options, they also have lots of different buffet options. Since it will be a private event, we still need to work out details on the specific menu, so more to come on that when available. If you have any specific dietary needs, let me know.

The owner will be reserving their private dining room and/or outdoor patio (weather permitting) for our group. Best of all, they will be donating 20% of all proceeds to MG-MI, the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of Michigan.

Dinner will be at 6 PM, so if you are staying at the Holiday Inn in Hastings, I'd suggest checking in there by 3 PM, get settled in and unhook your trailer, and then plan for about an hour drive to Latitude 42. Much of the route is nice two-lane country roads; in fact you'll drive by the museum on the way there. There will be some 4-lane highway and freeway as you approach Kalamazoo. I'll be providing maps for everyone at the hotel.

If you do not plan to join us for dinner, on Aug 14, please let me know (PM is fine), so that I can provide them a proper head count. Otherwise I will assume that if you are going to the museum, you'll be joining us for dinner. It should be a great time!

Also, a reminder from my previous post; please contact the Holiday Inn in Hastings and let them know you are with the Prowler group to ensure you get the group rate. Same thing goes for those of you continuing on to the Hyatt in Auburn Hills for the remainder of the week's activities.

The Gilmore will feature a special display titled: "A.J. Foyt: A Legendary Exhibition". It debuted at the Indianapolis Speedway Museum last year and features a western Michigan based connection: Jim Gilmore Enterprises.

A reminder to those who haven't replied yet: Please let me know if you have you hotel rooms booked and if you will be joining us for dinner on Aug 14, the night before the Gilmore event. I am planning on going back to Gimore on May 23 to tour the musuem again and attend the cruise-in, so after that I will report back with photos and and any new info. Feel free to send me a PM with any questions.

I just made a reservation at the Days Inn in Portage for the 14th so Susie and I can join the group for dinner that evening at the Latitude42 Brewery and then on to Gilmore in the morning.

As I need to get a head count for our dinner on 8/14, I have sent emails or PM's to all who are planning on attending the Gilmore event. Please reply before July 27 if possible.

If anyone else would like to join us, also let me know before July 27.

I will be going to Gilmore for the Mopar swap meet on July 28 so I was hoping to give them a number by then.

Also, remember that Jerry Neumann (1hotcat) is coordinating the post-Gilmore activities in Flint and on Woodward 8/16 - 8/18. I think most of the people attending Gilmore are planning to do the other events, but please let Jerry know your plans so that he can get accurate head counts. Thanks!!

Kathleen and I will be at Back to the Bricks, and Woodward again this year. This time with the 64 Cutlass. Will be driving it out from the Bay Area, CA. We will most likely make the Gilmore, not sure of the other organized deals yet. Have always enjoyed Woodward, and all the Prowler friends we have made. Looking forward to it.

The schedule for the Woodward portion of this event has now been finalized, with details below. You can come and go from each day's events as you wish, so do not be concerned with being locked in for the whole three days.

Thursday, August 16: Back to the Bricks in Flint Jerry is providing the food for this part of the event, SO PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU PLAN TO ATTEND ON THIS DAY AS WE DO NEED A HEAD COUNT FOR THIS. Meeting place will be 4100 S Saginaw St, Burton, MI 48529. Festivities are from 6 to 9 PM. For those staying at the Hyatt in Auburn Hills, plan to leave there by 5 PM. For those attending the Gilmore events on Wednesday, plan for about at least 2 hours for travel to the Hyatt to check -in there before heading to Flint. Always a good idea to allow for extra time for inevitable gas fill-ups, so planning for 3 hours is not a bad idea.

Friday, August 17: Model T factory and Hitsville USA museum tours We'll leave by 8 AM from the Hyatt to travel the length of Woodward down into the heart of Detroit for a Model T factory tour at the Ford Piquette Ave plant. Tour will start at 10 AM. The trip would not normally take 2 hours but we need to allow extra time due to higher traffic volumes expected that day. And yes there are other faster ways to get there, but you can't experience the Dream Cruise from the freeway. The tour is 10:00 - 11:30 AM. More details below on tickets.

We will follow the Model T tour with lunch down the street (easy walking distance) to Z's Villa http://zsvilladet.com/ . After lunch we'll travel a few blocks west to the Hitsville USA Motown museum and catch one of their hourly hours (starting at either 1 or 2 PM, depending on how long we all stay for lunch).

After that, the day's activities are up to you. Travel back north on Woodward to see the sights and crowds, but best to plan for dinner somewhere off Woodward or closer to the hotel as every place on Woodward will be packed.

Jerry is working on options for group rates on the museum tours and how to collect payment for tickets. Once that is done I'll update this post with that info.

Saturday, August 18 - official Dream Cruise day This day is do as you please. Jerry has made arrangements at the American Legion on 12 mile, about a quarter mile west of Woodward, for parking any time during the day. Because it is not right along on the main drag, parking should be available all day. PLEASE NOTE PARKING IS FREE FOR PROWLERS ONLY, OTHERWISE $10. Food will be available for purchase (Note the parking and food cost info has been edited form my first post, thanks to an update from Jerry).

Again, as I stated above, don't feel committed to doing each event. If you don't want to do one or both museums on Friday, no problem. All we ask is for a head count for the Flint event on Thursday since Jerry needs to know how much to buy for.

A big thank you to Jerry 1hotcat Neumann for managing this part of the event and covering the cost of food on Thursday evening.

For those who have already replied in the past showing interest in this part of the event, please reply to confirm your plans, either by posting here or sending me a PM or email. I'll reach out before the end of July if I don't hear from those who contacted me in the past. If you haven't yet signed up and are interested, feel free to PM me, or email PatSallyO@charter.net. I can also be reached at 248-495-3945. Jerry can be reached at 248-404-5884.
