This is more of a FYI post than a 'I have a question' post. Had the Kat out for a nice ride with the wife yesterday. Gassed her up (the car not the wife) and when I pulled into the garage I smelled raw gasoline. Checked under hood for leak / smell and there was none. No fuel spilled on floor that I could see. I pulled the carpet up in the trunk and removed the metal access panel to the fuel tank and pump. I could see some gasoline on the lid around the plastic screw on ring. Then I noticed that one fuel line (most likely return line) was not 'seated' fully onto the tank lid. I pushed it down, and it clicked into place. I checked the ring, it was tight. Turned on the key to pressurize fuel system and there was no leak. Started car and let it run for awhile (good time to check the trans fluid BTW). No leak was found. Not sure why this happened?? I changed out the fuel pump years ago and am usually very careful doing mechanical work. Hopefully the fuel leak is corrected? |

Don't know if you fill past first click-off of full or not, when I did, I smelled fuel in the cabin. Haven't filled past first click since, haven't smelled gas since, that smell of gas was about 10 yrs ago. |

Ironic that this is mentioned as I too just recently had the gas smell pop up one afternoon after getting home. I searched and found out how to access the fuel tank as I had already checked all around the car and didn't see any evidence. I also rotated the gas cap to ensure it was sealed. I can't say that I found anything around the gas tank in the trunk but I did check the fittings of things. Obviously something I did fixed the issue as the smell was only that day and has not returned. |
