Anyone ever hear of the Power Probe 4?

It is a serious electrical troubleshooting too I found on the internet. I ordered one and it should be here tomorrow.
Something else I will have to learn.

Man that looks nice. I spend a ton of time tracking down electrical issues and that would solve a lot of them.

Might need to pony up for one around bonus time.

I've used this device. Works well. In PPECT (open circuit) mode works about 80% of the time. A lot depends on location of wire and amount of metal surrounding wire area.

All in all, a good tool to have.

You need thr right leads to make it fit in tight places.

Reference was to open circuit test mode only. A Digital Frequency is sent down the suspected wire and an external, non-penetration probe, is used to hunt for where frequency is no longer detected. That correlates to point where wire is broken.

If you can not get external probe near that wire or there is to much body/chassis metal nearby, Digital Frequency detection will be distorted or lost, resulting in a false location indication.

If you don't need the broken wire feature, then a good Digital or Analog voltmeter will work just fine for cars.

All in all a very good tool to have, with many application beyond just cars.

From the instruction manual....

Advanced Testing Operations
PPECT Mode
PPECT
= PPECT Mode is designed
to work with the Power Probe ECT2000 for
locating open circuit conditions in wiring.
When using the ECT2000 to find opens
in wiring, the ECT Transmitter injects a
specialized digital signal that is normally
picked up by the wireless ECT Receiver.
In some situations, such as large wiring
bundles or limited access, pinpointing the
ECT signal and locating the exact point of
the wire failure may be difficult when using
the ECT Receiver alone.
When you select the ECT Mode, the Power
Probe IV is now specifically tuned to detect
the ECT open circuit signal. The Power
Probe IV is meant to work by direct contact
to the circuit.
Probe and contact the circuit with the ECT
signal on it and the main display will show
“DETECTED” and the Red/Green LEDs will
illuminate, verifying you are the correct
wire. This can greatly aid in detecting opens
in tight wire bundles or confined locations
