Community in chaos!!!

Last Thursday a community next to mine turned upside down.

Appoximately 40 houses blew up simultaneously. It was like a war zone.

Someone put high pressure gas through low pressure lines. Blown safety valves because of the high pressure fill the houses with gas and they exploded.

Apparatus from all over were called in to assist in the massive task of extinguishing all of the fires in Lawrence, Andover and North Andover.

The gas and power was turned off in these community's and immediate evacuation was issued. The Red Cross immediately responded and set up shelters for people to go to.

All the power was turned back on this am but gas service is going to be a while.

The existing Gas provider has been booted for lack of response and a new Gas provider has been called in to fix the mess.

So as it is as of now,,, every house gas meter and every house gas appliance must be replaced before the Gas service to be turned back on.

My friends brother was home when this happened and his furnace blew,,, he was able to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher.

And a very sad note,,, there was one casuallty. A 18 year old boy was sitting in his suv outside his home. He had just got home with his mother from getting his drivers licence. His mother went in the house to cook dinner,,, when she turned on the stove the house blew. The brick chimney landed on the suv and killed him instantly,,,the Mom survived. Very, Very Sad.

Thoughts and prayers needed for this one and the massive devistation going on in the Carolina area.

The Red Cross are a Godsend to helping people when these devistations happen,, if you would like to donate to the Red Cross please do.

Very sad news ... investigation into root cause will certainly be interesting. Doesn't replace the loss of life or the lost family heirlooms .... prayers to all this in the impacted areas and to their families an friends.

Been all over our news too...
That is scary. It always takes a tradigy to provoke change.
Hopefully some good will come of this so it doesn't happen again.

There was another gas line explosion just outside of Pittsburgh Pa. last week.

I have three high pressure gas lines in the lot next to my house, one is 40 inches in diameter.

I worked over 40 years with Hi pressure gas lines and had a few close calls but not by hooking up the wrong lines . Not sure why ? but it should have pop off relief valve at the meter station where main line pressure drops down to domestic line pressure .. bad deal for sure

I too saw it on the news this week. With as many houses that blew up, it’s a miracle that more weren’t killed. I’ve been hearing for years how the infrastructure everywhere in the US is starting to crumble and yet nothing ever seems to get done. Political promises on how roads, bridges, sewers, water lines and yes gas lines need to be made a priority for upgrading and replacement but STILL we’re dealing with tragedies like this every single day. We the American people need to stand up and demand that our leaders fix these problems before everything goes to hell in a handcar. Jer

Gary,, Mass is 4 miles from me,,, I am right on the border. My Mom is 12 miles from me,,, she is still in my boyhood home.

Padroo,, you have a big set of cahoonas to live there.

AC,, that was a great video, never seen that before.

Chaos latest,,, all residents have been a allowed back home. The electric has been turned back on but all the gas meters at the house's have been turned off and locked. They are checking for leaks in the streets,, once that is completed they will start to turn on the gas at each house one at a time to see what is needed. The are saying weeks before everyone has gas again. Thank God this is not winter,, nightmare magnified. Today we are getting Tropical storm Florance,, been raining hard here since 4am or so. Potential flooding may occur.

Have a good day peeps.

Chaos latest,,,,

They will be replacing 48 miles of gas line,,, you read right = 48 miles. Hopefully be done by Thankgiving.

The gas company was so nice that they made everyone stand in line to get a free hot plate to cook with in the mean time. Oh and they will be giving 1 free electric heater to each houshold. What a joke.

Happy I am in the woods self contained.
