Now the 5th largest fire in modern California history. 230,500acres burned, 15% containment. 794 structures destroyed and 187 damaged.

Schools still closed. Air quality unhealthy but improving a little bit here each day.

Portions of Fillmore, Carpenteria, Montecito and Summerland evacuated.

Saddened to think of the thousands of kids that are looking forward to Christmas but have no home to go to.

Keep those in the face of the fire in your prayers please.

Hey Jim I have a bunch of N95 and P100 masks... do you need any?

Oh man this fire has been surreal, can only imagine how the kids feel... I know what its been like for me.

A very good friend of mine for the last 27 years lost her home in Matilija Canyon... I'm so glad I have extra room for her and her little dog, until she can hopefully build on her property in the near future... Not sure what they are gonna let her do in the Canyon... Stay tuned...

For a valley that already had a shortage of housing...

Thanks CJ, it was a close call. More than one night I sat with the idea that I might not have a home in the morning.

We haven't had any rain (.04") to speak of, so this is going to be the incident that keeps on giving... if we get rain this season, unfortunately we'll be back in the news with mud slides.

Sorry to hear about your friend Kala. The son of a good friend of ours lost his house in the canyon also.

I’m good on masks, thanks though. I went to the supply house and bought 2 dozen boxes, all they had left. Been handing them out to anyone that we see.

Was nice to finally see the air tankers flying this afternoon.

Any idea what that huge plane that was flying low & slow over the valley was?

It didn’t have the radar thing I’d on its back. Such an odd sight, kinda reminded me of when I was learning to fly the Cessna. i.e. making turns without losing altitude. LOL

2 Days ago, They caught an idiot trying to start another fire near us in Anaheim Hills. Residents have been keeping a close eye on their area when they spotted this guy. 2 small fires were put out by residents and the police took the guy away in handcuffs. This is the same area that was burning a few weeks ago so there wasn't a lot of brush that would catch fire easily. The man is lucky that the police showed up quickly as the man suffered several cuts & bruises to his face. The man is actually lucky those people didn't kill him.

Have no idea on plane Kala. All we saw was the tankers and spotter planes.

This monster just keeps going and going. Evacuations continue in Carpenteria, Montecito and Santa Barbara. I’m sure everyone will be happy to know Ellen and Oprah’s estates are fine.

Sam of this morning fire is at 234,000 acres with 20% containment.

Total cost so far is estimated at $48,616,000.00

18,000 structures threatened.

691 homes destroyed, 158 damaged. Plus dozens if not hundreds of out buildings, commercial, etc.

912 engines, huge thanks to all the out of state fire fighters and other first responders we see.

50 water tenders, 27 helicopters, 67 bull dozers.

125 hand crews.

Total personnel currently fighting this thing is estimated at 6,946.

Amazingly, last word was 1 death (traffic accident fleeing fire, think on canyon road) and less than a dozen injuries.

Schools in Ventura were due to open tomorrow but have been cancelled thru the end of the week. Not sure if they will open back up before Christmas break, smoke is so thick you can’t hardly see, let alone breath.

After bailing out of here to get some fresh air at the beach for a few days, it’s back to the smoke and ash.

Felt real bad the other day when a firefighter was killed battling this blaze. Was really worried when I first heard it was a Cal Fire engineer. Larry Lords son works for Cal Fire and is on this fire. Was relieved when they finally let loose that he was from San Diego, but still feel horrible for his wife and family.

Currently the 3rd largest fire now, and truly believe they will not get this topped until its way past number 1.

269,000 acres with 40% containment.

18,000 structures threatened, still evacuating areas of Santa Barbara, Montecito, Carpinteria and Fillmore. For those concerned about Ellen and Oprah, they are still safe!

1,020 structures destroyed and 242 damaged.

Cost to fight this so far $116,948,500.00

Please continue to pray for those impacted by this disaster.

Mike, no doubt we have been very lucky, and are thankful for it.

Kala: I️ bet you saw the USAF reaper drone they were flying. Just saw an article about it.

Winds have been calm lately which have really helped slow the fire. But expected to pick again in the next few days.
