Multiple fires burning throughout California. Thousands of acres burned. Hundreds of homes gone. The destruction just unbelievable. Some lives changed forever. Lifetimes of memories gone in minutes. Santa Ana winds due to start blowing again, making the destruction even worse. Hopes and prayers go out to all of those impacted by these events. And a special prayer for all of the first responders, not just the police and fire, but all the utility workers and others that work so hard to keep us safe and work to get our lives back to normal. |

Thomas Fire in Ventura County currently 90,000 acres plus burned. 150 homes gone and that has not been updated in some time. 0 percent containment with wind gusts expected to reach 60-80 mph. We personally know dozens of friends that have lost everything with no notice. And everyone you talk to knows someone that was affected by this. It truly is amazing the ferocity of this firestorm. Winds so turbulent that almost no air support was available. We have fire departments from all over the state here, with more coming in from out of state. 50,000 people evacuated, thousands of homes at risk. Guessing maybe 100,000 acres total on fire in Southern California. And with the winds at red flag warning for the next couple days who knows the outcome. But, as a plus seeing the communities pull together, neighbors helping neighbors, and strangers stepping up offering whatever they have to give is truly humbling. But truly saddened to hear that in one of the LA fires they had a huge amount of horses perish. Apparently they were not able to evacuate them from the stables. Again, thoughts and prayers are more than welcome for those that have been affected by this disaster. |

Just to add one more thing, member Kala lives in what I believe to be the path of this fire in Ojai. Have not heard about the location of the fire relative to her location but I am very worried about her. |

quote: Jim,,,I've been thinking about Kala's safety the past few days, and hope she will be OK through this expanding fire devastation. Jim and Cathi,,,,You guys stay safe as well.. Pride in one's home is not worth risking your lives. Our prayers are with all in the fire's path, and those working to fight these fires. Arizona is again sending more fire fighters to Cally to replace our first group sent over when these started. Working 16 hour days on the front line has to be extremely tiring and dangerous for these brave men and women...

Currently at 96,000 acres, with 5 percent containment. Portions of Ojai and Meiners Oaks evacuated. Hwy. 101 closed, major North South artery. Community of LaConchita evacuated. Portions of Carpenteria evacuation orders issued. Santa Barbara possibly next. Fire is also moving from Santa Paula towards Fillmore. Kala I am extremely worried about. From the latest looks at the fire maps she looks to be in the path. Visibility is limited, smoke and ash everywhere. Air quality horrible. No idea on cause of fire yet, to early to tell. Listening to the fire department chatter all night. Lots of utility poles and lines gone so power and communication is getting sketchy in areas, worse than it has been since this started. Just saw the wind index, extreme conditions running from San Diego to Carpenteria. Haven’t had any updates on homes lost because they just don’t have the resources to get into some of the more remote areas to look but they expect the numbers to rise drastically. |

Let's keep Kala and her property in our prayers.. Kala will check-in when she gets some spare minutes. |

I evacuated to Frazier park, the air is awesome at 4k ft. ! When the traffic was so bad getting out of Ojai, the 33 north was wide open at the time... so we ran up the canyon to the 5 fwy. Got to the 5 and south bound was closed for the Rye fire... so we grabbed the nearest decent hotel room we could. The Holiday Inn Express in Lebec has been very kind to my group, they even managed to give us 4 rooms all together. Cant say enough good things about the people of Frazier park either.. So nice and helpful up here. Yes my house is in the path of the fire... Last night was a very close call... Jim I hope you and Cathi are ok, the air can't be good in Ojai... Do you have air filters in your house? Could you leave if you wanted to? or are all roads closed? Lets get together once this is all over. |

I live near Magic Mountain in Southern CA. The fires are about 7 to 10 miles from my home. I can see large clouds of smoke. I have not smelled any fire and no ash has dropped in my neighborhood. The winds have been blowing the opposite direction of my house. The winds are now picking up. |

Weren't there fires there near Magic Mountain a few years back? We visit Magic Mountain when we come out for our Disneyland trips since with our Six Flags pass its a "free" Day at that park for us. Recall last time we saw a lot of burned out hillsides near the Magic Mountain exit. Stay safe! |

Kala, that’s great news. We were very worried for you. Not the gophers though! And glad you found some good air! Good friend sent me a short video of the destruction in his neighborhood. Just home after home gone. Truly heartbreaking. And now moving into Santa Barbara county. Howard, stay safe. |

Ojai is completely surrounded by fire, Hope Kala stays away from those fires. Some homes in the rich neighborhoods of Bel-Air are now on fire and they have lost a few homes. |

Thanks everyone for the thoughts and prayers. Air quality today is the worst yet. Almost choking. Schools have been closed since the start of the fire, and are tentatively set to open Tuesday. A few updated stats that are real eye openers. 132,000 acres burned, 10 % containment. 401 structures destroyed ( many, many friends of ours), 81 structures damaged. 15,000 structures threatened. Over 3500 personnel working this fire, 544 engines, 21 helicopters, 26 dozers, 9 water tenders. 87,000 people evacuated. Mind boggling. 87,000 people evacuated. No hotel rooms available anyplace close. And some trippling rates for evacuees. Helicopters pulling water out of the lake behind us all day, maybe every minute or so. At least 1 local, water district lost 4 of 5 wells due to power poles and wiring burnt. Water boil requirements thru Ventura, Casitas Springs and Ojai. And they are saying most likely will continue to burn thru the end of the year. Last night we sat and watched the fire burning on the mountain ridges on both sides of us (we are safe) just amazed at how intense this fire is. And one thing that truly saddens me, is the reports of at least 2 local firefighters that were off duty and got called in when this started. They both lost there homes while working to save others. |
