Who is watching it? I missed the first installment but watched it tonight. Ken Burns is telling it like it was.
It is really disappointing to see how much the gov't lied, early on in the build up stages. One guy who joined the Marines said, "we were probably the LAST generation of young guys who believed our gov't wouldn't lie to us".

I missed episodes 1&2 but I have recorded the rest. I am waiting until I can watch 1 & 2 either on repeat or on demand so I can watch them in order.

Fioptics was out the past two nights so I couldn't post but I have watched all of it. Tonight is the last episode, I THINK. There has been some eye-opening stuff, for me. I wasn't there, I was in Korea in 1966.
They really put it on Nixon, of course, but also told it like it was about JFK and LBJ and how it was all based on getting elected or re-elected with all three of them. The corruption was incredible but that is nothing compared to the lives lost and lives ruined.

I got to watch the final episode tonight,,,really depressing to think of all of the lives lost, lives changed, and all of the money spent.....and then depart without a victory and the shame of a small country (N. Vietnam) standing up to the powerful U.S. military had at its disposal.
I always thought if Goldwater would have been elected, tens of thousands of U.S. lives would have been saved, because Barry would have had the North leveled with bombs dropping from B-52s like M & Ms falling out of a open bag.
Westmoreland was not the commander needed to direct the offensive operations, imo

I do automotive swapmeets in Houston area and 2 years ago had a group of disabled veterans come to me and wanted to set up a booth to sign up those guys who otherwise wouldn't know that they may have benefits...Most of these men are Vietnam or Korean war vets....The wife and a I are always humbled when we see the disbelief on some of my older vendors and spectators faces who are being helped by these guys!
They will be at my Conroe event Nov. 3-5 if anyone here would like to check them out......Jim

I was in Sams the other day and waiting in line to get a slice of pizza, wearing my Vienam hat. A lady came up to me and said she wanted to pay for my lunch, and thank me for serving in Vietnam, and how badly we were treated when we came home. I said that she didn't have to do that, but she insisted. I thanked her, and the other people standing there also thanked me for serving. If I ever see her again, it will be my pleasure to buy her lunch!!

Sharon and I just started to watch the Ken Burns documentary about V. N. this afternoon (03Oct2017) My brother John went to Nam in the late fall of 1965. Marines, trained in Paris Island. Wounded (shot in back) in early 1966. Came home with medical discharge (Honorable). We shared the same room. I was 10 at the time. His night terror screams scared the sh*t out of me. He told me many 'stories' he really should not have.... By the time I hit 18 the draft had changed to a 'lottery' based on your B.D. as I recall.....

I think high schools should incorporate Ken Burns historical documentaries into their American and World History classes.

When I went to school the history text books were so boring....... Most of the tests seemed to be about memorizing dates......JEEZE!

Ken Burns films are fascinating and I believe students would really get interested and have a much better understanding of our heritage if they were used in the curriculum. The kids might actually get interested and look forward to going to class just to see what happens next.

BTW.....PBS sells dvds of these series.....Perhaps parents and grandparents should contact their schools history teachers and ask if they could purchase copies as a gift to the school.

The Vietnam video is a TEN PART, EIGHTEEN HOUR documentary film series AND IS CURRENTLY on sale FOR LESS THAN $75!

I have all ten episodes recorded. Linda wants to watch them with me. Now we just need to find the time.

I wear my Vietnam Veteran hat most of the time. It's very heartwarming that so many people now shake my hand and thank me for my service. The only thing better is when a fellow veteran walks up and says "Welcome Home" This is something we Vietnam veterans say to each other because expect for our immediate family and some friends there was no welcome home when we returned from Nam.

We have finished watching series 1 - 5. (I believe there is 10 total) Ken Burns is a master of his craft. What a mess our government made with V.N. We had no business in that country. What a waste of life and limb.....very sad.

We finished 6-7 last night. Took you through Kent State and Me Lay. I lived in Ohio (Cleve) during that time period. How did Gov Rhodes avoid murder one charges? Killed 4 college students, one who was a ROTC in the wrong place. And Nixon was a scum bag coming into the election and Johnson knew it!! What a mess!
