Ryan contradicts Trump's claim that the FBI planted a 'spy' MARY CLARE JALONICK, Associated Press 6/6/2018 WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker Paul Ryan is breaking with President Donald Trump, agreeing with others who say there's no evidence that the FBI planted a "spy" in Trump's 2016 presidential campaign in an effort to hurt his chances at the polls. Trump has insisted the agency planted a spy "to help Crooked Hillary win." Both Ryan and House Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Trey Gowdy attended a classified briefing last month following reports that the FBI used an informant in its Russian election meddling investigation to speak to members of the Trump campaign who had possible connections to Russia. Gowdy said afterward that the FBI was doing its duty. "I am even more convinced that the FBI did exactly what my fellow citizens would want them to do when they got the information they got," Gowdy, R-S.C., said on Fox News last week. "And that it has nothing to do with Donald Trump." Ryan, R-Wisc., told reporters on Wednesday that he thinks Gowdy's "initial assessment is accurate," and he has seen "no evidence to the contrary" of what Gowdy said. On Trump's orders, the Department of Justice conducted two briefings for a handful of members of Congress after House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes, R-Calif., had asked for documents concerning the informant. Trump repeatedly tweeted about the issue, asserting there was a spy and that it was "starting to look like one of the biggest political scandals in U.S. history." Ryan said Congress has more digging to do and that he wished they had gotten the information earlier. Ryan also joined Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell in issuing a careful warning about Trump's recent assertion that he has the authority to pardon himself. Trump said he has the "absolute right" to pardon himself if it were necessary — which Trump says it won't be, because "I have done nothing wrong." "I don't know the technical answer to that question, but I think obviously the answer is he shouldn't and no one is above the law," Ryan said. McConnell said Tuesday the question of whether Trump has legal authority to pardon himself is "an academic discussion," but Trump "obviously knows that would not be something that he would or should do." |

Lets look at it this way. When the FBI suspected that Russia was hacking the DNC and Clinton campaign servers. They went to them requested access to the DNC server so the DNC and the FBI could work together to resolve the issue. Oddly the DNC declined the FBI access. I wonder what they had to hide. Anyway the FBI didn't question that denial, just accepted it on its face value and didn't proceed to investigate any further. All despite there was strong evidence of at the minimum Russian hacking. Not to mention the Clinton's previous dealings with the Russians and accepting millions of dollars from Russia for Bill's speaking engagements and donations to the Clinton Charity. And don't even get me started on the Uranium One deal. However when they suspected the Trump campaign and the GOP were being targeted by the Russians, they snuck people in under cover to see what they could dig up. No request for cooperation etc. Why were the two handle so completely differently? This is where Trey Gowdy and Paul Ryan are wrong in their assessments. I have never had any use for Ryan he is always looking out for his own interests. On the other hand I have always respected Trey Gowdy. But I think he is wrong here. But hey nobody is perfect. How's that for not deflecting? This message has been edited by BeWare on 06-07-2018 at 04:43 PM |

Ryan is a RINO and always working against Trump, that's common knowledge. You're really starting to reach now Tommie as Trump is coming up roses everywhere. You're threads are becoming more impotent by the day. Pretty soon you won't even be able to get it up... So sad for Tommie as his blue wave has turned into a big brown skid mark in his underwear... |
