First shift is hard before going into second gear, is that normal?

Do you drive aggressively? Is this during a rapid acceleration? Was it at WOT? The transaxle "learns" your driving style. Want to rest it to the default? Disconnect the battery for a few minutes. Remember you will also have to reset your clock and radio stations.

Yes! The more gas you gift it, the harder it shifts!

I've watched passengers heads snap on the 1 to 2 shift and then I smile.

Prowler was one of the first to utilize adaptive learning shift control. Plus, because she is a 'hot rod' the clutch apply is quick and firm. If your unhappy disconnect positive battery terminal for 30 minutes. That will put you into factory set base line, which is still kinda firm. I personally like a nice quick and firm shift! You did not purchase a Lexus or Buick!!
