I'm trying to disconnect the door speaker in my '99. I've released the tab, but the plug will not release. It feels like the contacts are welded together! Any tips?

Well, sometimes I am not a very patient and one of those times was I replaced the door speakers in my first Prowler. Like you I could not get the connector to open (driver's side) so I just cut wires and spliced them back together later. Yes I known that is not really a proper solution but the speaker worked fine from then on.

If you are replacing the speaker why not just cut the tabs off of the speaker and then you can deal with them.

If I remember correctly you have to release the tab you indicate but then lift out the side tab. Put a small screwdriver in there and pry it out. Trick is holding the release tab and trying to pry sideways at the same time.

For what it's worth, every time I have had to disconnect a Door Speaker from it's wire connector, it has been a tug of war. Those Speaker Connections on the Prowler are the hardest ones to separate that I have ever come across. Dont give up, just pull harder.

Thanks for the tips. I'm not replacing the speaker - just need it out of the way to install a Tom Mills window regulator. If I can't disconnect it, I'll just tape it out of the way and cover it to avoid damaging it during the regulator install.

Most original door speakers are bad by now. If they are originals I would at least inspect the outer edge where the cone meets the foam, the foam dry rots.
