Car has been running fine. Stopped to run an errand, turned the car back on, transmission seemed to be stuck in first gear (limp mode?). Gauge cluster seemed to have all gears selected (square box around PRND on the readout). Turned ignition off and back on, all gauges except voltage were are off. Instrument cluster readout and tach also off.

Pulled #10 and #11 fuses, no change
Pulled battery cable and reinstalled, no change

I thought it might be trans sensor, but I thought those only made the speedo turn off, not most of the gauges.

Ideas?

Cheapest and a easy fix is to change both input and output sensors.
Then go from there.

Input Sensor (Part# 04800878)

Output Sensor (Part# 04800879)

Common Causes of Chrysler Prowler P1698 OBD2 Code
A common cause of code P1698 is the failure of Audio Rear Integrated Control Panel Unit is Not Responding, but there are several other possible causes as well, such as ;
Air fuel ratio (A/F) Sensor 1 Bank 1 harness is open or shorted
Air fuel ratio (A/F) Sensor 1 Bank 1 circuit poor electrical connection
Camshaft advance mechanism binding (VCT unit)
Air fuel ratio (A/F) Sensor 1 Bank 1 circuit poor electrical connection

Just came back from buying sensors in case they were the problem.

Instrument cluster fuse was blown, gauges kick back on with new fuse, but as soon as trans downshifts, it blows the fuse again. Would that be a symptom of bad trans sensors?

Managed to pull code p1698...

P1698 - No messages coming from the TCM. Located in the trunk, check the plug for corrosion, clean and resecure. Also check the ground. The fuse blew due to a short or a spike in voltage. The missing output messages (data) from the TCM control the things that you saw on the dash.

Replaced both transmission sensors on Monday night (not fun getting to the further one), and reset the computer. Car was running fine yesterday. Today symptoms came back.

Took apart TCM to check for issues. Everything was clean, but I made sure everything was tight (including ground).

TCM Board is potted in soft epoxy, so couldn't take the board out to check...

What should I be checking next?

did you erase the code p1698...If not erase and reset computer and then try the car again.

If you're able to find a competent garage have them do a deeper scan to see if they can pin point if it's one of the sensors mentioned above.

are all the symptoms the same as the first post.

I presume you already disconnected the battery and waited about 10 minutes for it to reset. That should clear the code. It may reappear, of course.
