Took a scouting road trip from Fairfield Glade to Tellico Plains / Cherohala Skyway / Bald River Falls on Tuesday. I'll attempt to attach a few photos below. We will be taking a little different route in Oct to the Tail of the Dragon. We pick up 68 in Crossville / FFG. Head south to the Watts Bar area and our 1st stop - TVA Watts Bar Nuclear Power Plant. Very scenic views of the Tennessee River + restrooms. Plenty of high quality gas stations on the way, ~ every 15 minutes. Past the town of Sweetwater on the left is the "Lost Sea Adventure" which is a underground lake, "America's largest"! You can take a one hour boat ride underground, if you choose. Onward down 68 to Tellico Plains, a very eclectic town with lots to see and do. Ha! It's the middle of Feb and the Cherry Trees are in bloom! Enter Cherohala Parkway on the left. A few miles inward and a sign on the right points you off the main road for a side trip to the Bald River Waterfall! Well worth the short diversion. Beautiful scenery on the way and the falls is spectacular! Back to the Skyway and onwards to 129 and the Tail of the Dragon. After a rest at the "Tail" onward north on 129 / 411 to the Foothills Parkway and North. To the towns of Maryville / Alcoa. Pick up 321. Plenty of high quality restaurants and gas stations along this route. Then up to 140 north to 40 west and back to FFG. Your done for the day!! This CCW route will take us through some very scenic views and pleasant driving during the day on high quality 2 lane highways / 4 lane highways. During the end of the trip we will wind up on well lit, good quality roads. I want to avoid driving these "back roads" at night. I'm pleased with this route. Stroker has assisted greatly in this regard. Thanks Stroker!! Everyone will have a great time! This message has been edited by quincy on 02-21-2018 at 12:20 PM |
