Sorry to hear about that,, I had a very similar event happen with NO physical damage to myself. I have replaced the struts with a tonneau cover strut, and added a support post that stands between the top and the bottom as extra security, I made it from a chrome closet rod and attached two chrome mounts with a rubber center for appearance. Wish you well !!! Tom

I have a nice Ram truck. I hadn't opened the hood for quite some time. Last time was an oil change. It's an 04 that I ordered with only 25k miles on it. Last weekend I decided I'd better take a peek and do a little under hood cleaning and check oil level. So I lifted hood and walked over to work bench and KA-BLAM!!! Hood fell shut! I almost jumped out of my skin! Hood would not stay up after that and I had to use a broom stick to keep it up. So these struts that they all use are a STUPID idea. They eventually fail on all vehicles.

Hello Jeff and Koolkty - this is good info b/c I have a 2002 trailer and just last night, my lid came down on me as I was trying to secure some items from it but luckily, I am still young enough (reflex) to get out of the way (smile).

Anyway, I looked into the LS Technologies struts (hood and trailer) and they cost but I guess that's better than a doctor's bill huh.

Phil, I like that idea even if you guy new struts b/c I would hate for my lid to crash down on a kid during a show. The two piece of 1/2 PVC sounds good.

MD Prowler - where did you get the slightly longer struts at the camper store in Rosedale (info please).

Hey Brax! Did you just call me old and slow
I challenge you to a game of Hot Hands. No never mind I bruise easy now. In my defense my head was turned to the left and I didn't see it coming.

I am glad you're doing something to protect the innocent.
Thanks for the reply

Hey Jeff! No, I was not calling you old but was "simply" speaking to my young reflexes - that's all.

Hot Hands - oh my, you went back into times of which I totally understand - ops, calling you old again - lol.

I just ordered one of these, thanks everybody. My hood fell with the cover touching it a couple of nights ago...a warning. I'll use with the trailer, too.
