I took my Prowler and trailer camping this past weekend (bucket list item) When I returned home I was unloading all the gear from the trailer. I leaned into the trailer to pickup the tent and I will get new struts and the wounds will heal but I will never trust it again. I think of all the car shows that I attended where I would have the lid open to display Prowler items and I think of all the kids that leaned in to look. You just never know when the struts will fail. I will use a well secured pole just to be safe. BTW my AJAX trailer is a 2002. Hard to believe it's 15 years old. I just wanted to share this to save everyone from an E.R trip. P.S. That lid is HEAVY when the struts go!! Jeff |

****Edited to change link. Ebay stuff comes and goes. New link will give you general idea on what to search for.**** I feel your pain. Had a hood collapse on me once. Bought this to prevent a recurrence. Clamps to strut to prevent it from falling. Cheap insurance. Get well soon. This message has been edited by Tomcal on 10-05-2017 at 11:32 AM |

I recommend getting new struts from LS Technologies (info below). I replaced both my hood and trailer struts. They know the Prowler and will get you the correct fit. The only struts I haven't replaced yet are for the rear deck lid, but when they start to go, I will contact LS again. LS Technologies Inc |

I cut two pieces of 1/2 PVC, Slotted the tubing and now just put it around the shaft once the hood or deck is in the up position. They fit very snugly around the shaft and will not allow it to fall. My gas shocks are still good , but did not want to have it fall on me by surprise. Being a mechanic, I have had many hoods come down on me. I have several sizes cut that I used to keep in my service trucks that fit all applications. Its a cheap & easy fix. This message has been edited by phil2237 on 10-04-2017 at 07:44 PM |

Jeff, Glad your OK. Sounds like you are more than due some GOOD LUCK!!!! I noticed Jeff W.'s trailer had small wood spacers he made on his struts at the 20th event. Sounds a lot like Phil's design, inexpensive fix to insure no surprise lid drops. I made a set out of plastic when I got home & they work GREAT. |

Jeff...hope you heal quickly. I replaced hood struts and my trailer struts as soon as we bought it in July. I actually went with a higher psi strut on rhe trailer. |

Hey Charlie-Great to hear from you I still have your Woodward CD but you'll have to go Prowlin' with me to get it back On a brighter note the camping trip was great and if you think it is rare to see another Prowler on the road, seeing one in a State Park campground blew some people away. I've never had so many visitors while camping. Hope to see you soon! P.S. Glad you made the fix for your struts! |

Jeff, I got slightly longer struts at the camper store in Rosedale. The lid opens fully upright so falling is no longer a problem. I will check on the length and psi. They were only like $16-$20 each. PS. I have a bunch of bubble wrap at work. Sounds like you need some! This message has been edited by MDProwler on 10-04-2017 at 08:54 PM |

I did what Phi, did only used stiff black hose. Cut it 1/2" lo ng and then slit lengthwise. Just pop over the stru arm after opening and, being black, no one knows it is there. 50 cent fix. |

Now Ed I want you to go in there and hug the best thing that ever happened to you. Let me rephrase that, I can't leave an opening that big for you. I want you to go in there and give Sandy a big ole hug. |
