Funny you say that. My engine light has been on for a couple of years. Actually it came on right after I purchased it. Figured po had just got it off to sell it. Had the local Dodge store look at it and they couldn't fix it. So I've just been living with it. I haven't driven the Prowler in about a year till this past weekend. I noticed the engine light wasn't on! Healing power of the Prowler I guess....

If the car is still running OK, go to AutoZone and have them readout the code.
If you just got gas, make sure the gas cap is on tight.

Let us know what code you come up with and more help is available.

First thing to try is simply disconnect the negative cable to your battery and let it stay that way for about a minute.

Then reconnect the battery cable and then see if the light has gone off.

Disconnecting the battery for about a minute allows the "computer" to re-set itself.

Checking the gas cap as Steve suggested is also a good idea as a loose cap will cause the "check engine" light to come on.

If neither of those cures it, take Steve's advise and go to AutoZone and ask them to use their analyzer to print you a readout which should diagnose your problem. It just takes a few minutes and they do not charge for the service.

BTW....They will diagnose the problem and tell you what you need to correct the problem...Once the problem is corrected the analyzer has a function on it to "clear the codes" from your computer but AutoZone WILL NOT erase the code from your computer....They have been given strict orders NOT to do so for liability reasons.

You can buy the analyzer and do it yourself but they won't do it for you....BTW...The analyzers are not very expensive.

Good luck...

BTW....Many people have NEVER been able to figure out why that damn light stays on......Their ultimate solution to the problem is to put a piece of BLACK ELECTRICAL TAPE OVER IT.

If disconnecting battery does not clear it, go to amazon and get a code reader, google the code, to find the problem, and clear it. www.amazon.com/Oxgord-Scanner-Engine-Diagnostics-Direct/dp/B011Q18D14/ref=sr_1_cc_2?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1498486859&vehicle=2000-43-263-20--8-1-7-4270-210-1-1-627--1-0&sr=1-2-catcorr& ymm=2000%3Aplymouth%3Aprowler&keywords=code+reader

as others have suggested , Check and make sure your gas cap is screwed on tight. If it's not, then tightened it and disconnect, wait 15 and reconnect the battery again.

My engine light came on today. After reading the posting I tightened my gas cap and disconnected the negative cable for a few minutes and the light went out. Thanks for the help.

Have had my check engine light come on several times since 2008. Just did the disconnect negative battery cable, everything was fine afterwards. Do run your Kat for at least a hundred miles before going through state inspection, however.
