doubt it

what is the MDH on the door sticker?

month day hour

this will tell you when it started down the line.

Im sure someone somewhere knows the vin of the 1st yellow Prowler but the vins were mixed between vipers and prowlers

my car was an early yellow 6/26/98 started down line @noon

Steve Clarks was 5/19 if I remember right and looked at a few more yellows at 20th event. I believe they started painting yellow in april of 98

but the MDH is the place to start looking to see when it was started down the assembly process.

Mine was a july '98 car as well in Prowler yellow. Serial numbers on Prowlers NOT at all like on a Corvette where you know exactly what number of how many you have ... and can kinda sorta figure out how early or late your color is in line too.

According to Owners Registry XV500012 and XV500018 are the first Yellow Prowlers. I also remember seeing 2 yellow prowlers on the line when CAAP was building the first batch of 1999 Purples. Later on they made a full batch of Yellows.

2 - Make (P= Plymouth, C= Chrysler)
3 - Vehicle Type (3= Passenger Car)
4 - Passenger Safety (E= Active driver and passenger air bags)
5 - Car Line (W= Prowler)
6 - Series (6= Performance/Image)
7 - Body Style (5= Open body)
8 - Engine (F= 3.5 V6 steel block, G= 3.5 V6 Alum. block)
9 - Check Digit (0 through 9 or X)
10 - Model Year (V= 1997, X= 1999, Y= 2000, 1= 2001, 2= 2002)
11 - Assembly Plant (V= Conner Avenue Assembly Plant)

Getting some sense of where in the order of the 605 Yellow Prowlers made, how many were supplied with the single hood prop rod before they came with hood shock supports? Also, where any Yellow Prowlers produced without chrome wheels?

My 1999 Yellow built in July-98 has the single hood prop rod.

All early (mine included - July '98) car came with painted wheels that matched the painted A-arms. Chrome came out on black and red as standard, but shown as an 'option', but yellow had painted first then chrome.

My 1999 Yellow built in July-98 has the single hood prop rod.

As far as I know, all original yellows built in 1998 as 1999 had the prop rod and all had the silver painted wheels

Not all early 1999 have prop Rod today because Tom Mills made a kit to install the gas shocks on the early cars and his yellow and mine both were upgraded to the gas shocks

In looking at Steve Clarks chamillion (was an original yellow built 5/19/98) it didn't have the cowl cut for the gas shocks, mine and Dave Mills (6/25 & 6/26 build dates) were both cut and had hole in one tower to install ball stud.

Also the very early yellow 99's had the holes punched in the panel behind the seats for the speaker by the time my was built in June 26th 1998 they had changed to the mesh grill over the speakers.

Tom Mills yellow didn't have the mesh grill over speakers

Chrysler charged on my 1999 yellow in July of 1998

$39,300 base price
$1,000 Prowler Yellow
$700 destination
$41,000 total

They stated when I toured MSX in April of 1999 that they would not paint any more yellows, well they made a whole lot more yellow after mine. They had coverage issues but must have figured that out.

Were chrome wheels an option on all 1999 Prowlers?
Or were offered a few months into the '99 production year? If so, about what month in 1998?

NO CHROME WHEELS on original run of 99 yellow Prowlers

I have had 2 sets of silver wheels chromed for my car.

Many have them, a guy in Tennessee had a yellow, bought a black, switched wheels, sold the black with painted silver wheels so he could have a chrome set.

OK, my 1999 yellow prowler was mfg in December of 1997 & my serial # is XV500015 .........this yellow prowler has special factory pin striping on it, in addition to the prowler "cat logo" is on the top, front, of each front fender, as well as the trunk......matching pin striping, is also on the trailer..... with a picture of the cat logo, also same as there is on the trunk and front fenders.....the pin striping is not like you see from dr dru, but rather a sort of a skipping stripe......this car was supposedly the 1st yellow model.....sent out to dealers for photos & is considered the most photographed yellow used on advertising banners & flyers sent out to dealers.....

My "MDH". Number located on the door sticker is (12 02 12) 953 Does this number along with the 500015 serial number, give any clue as to being made 1st 2nd or 3rd Prowler? Is it possible, that these 3 vehicles were the first 3 yellow Prowlers to be sent around to dealerships as advertising? And photos? ((( Thanks ))). for all replies!!!

As with tracing and documenting any other such collector car, the trick is to find photos from that time to support the theory. To my knowledge, and I have been around POA and the prior PPC for a long time, I have never seen a 'factory' striping as you mention. I have, and likely so does CJ to a much larger volume, many early promotional pieces and articles featuring the yellow when it first debuted. None of these reflect a pinstripe along the fender line. Again, not disputing your theory, but to prove it would take having some photos or other paperwork documentation ... in the meantime ... enjoy being part of the best Prowler color family!

I've been told,, that the origional purchaser, whom is now deseased........actually went to the Prowler factory to purchase this Prowler, he was told that this prowler was specially done for photos & advertising & testing for the 0-60 MPG in 30 second.......and had 24000 miles on it, from the factory.....if what his son says is true, then there has to be circulated photos out there.......someone has to have an advertisement photo somewhere..........I'm wondering if CJ has any knowledge of these origional yellow prowlers??? Thanks!

Your vin number definitely seems to indicate your car is a 97. That said I have never heard of this car or seen any pictures of it. Like you said if it was the most photographed yellow why is that? I am not saying it isn't true but it does seem suspect. Are you sure this car isn't a purple that has been repainted yellow? I hope someone chimes in that knows for sure one way or the other.
