I've owned the car since new, but haven't attended many car shows. In preparation for the Anniversary / CEMA show, I thought I'd enter a local show this weekend. My question, when should I go? The organizer advertises event time 8 AM to 3 PM, registration 8 AM to 12 PM. Awards given out at 3 PM. I pre-registered. I'm not sure I want to sit there for 7 hours. Can I arrive at 11 AM or is this bad manners? What are folks doing all morning? Detailing their cars at the show site? |

I used to do many shows, but have not in a very long time. IMO only I would arrive no later than 10. Typically what I do is upon arrival I detail my car. Then I walk around and check out all the other cars. After that much of my time is sitting by our car an answering lots of questions or just chatting about cars in general with other car loving folks. |

Bring a chair. lol If you don't like those bag chairs, I bought a pair of these at Sam's Club last year after seeing similar ones at This message has been edited by padroo on 05-23-2017 at 11:55 AM |

The required time commitment is the main reason I seldom participate in car shows. Cruise-ins have few constraints and thus, I much prefer them. Occasionally, I've done a mere "cruise through" at a cruise-in. |

Speaking as someone who was once a car show organizer let me suggest you arrive at the earliest time that works for you. Remember the organizers need a crowd for a successful show. The crowds only show up if there are plenty of cars on display. No cars= no crowds= no more shows. This is especially true if an admission is being charged. |

Thanks for the quick replies. You've hit on several of my concerns, difficulty carrying a chair in the Prowler, too much 'sit around' time, and thinking about other things I could get done on Saturday. I also considered that I don't expect to win anything [without chrome 'this and that,' no detailed engine (heck the hood won't even stay up on the stock hood shocks), and my general laziness beyond a good wax and shiny wheels]. I called the organizer and he said 11 AM will be OK. I'll let you know my experience after Saturday. |

My only comment on attending shows and arrival time... shade. If there is any the early bird gets the worm... errr shade. Maybe it just me, but I find it important to locate a spot to park my chair then the Prowler. |

You will want to go early so you get a good parking spot. Perhaps in the shade. Car guys go to car shows to look at and talk cars. Plenty of that to keep you busy. People have lots of questions about Prowlers. If you go at 11AM you will get the last parking spot out in the north 40. |

You don't need to worry about the CEMA car show. You will be receiving an Event Booklet which will give you all the info you need. We also have a designated area where we are going to be parking. We will be going over to the show as a group!!! |

quote: Need to contact LS TECH and get new gas shocks. Mine have been on since Tulsa and still holds good up very well. Most bag chairs will fit in the trunk, I carried 2 in there all the time, but the larger fancy ones probably will not fit. Once you detail it some and walk around and check out the other cars and talk to other owners the time passes quickly some of the time. Then a lot of questions about the prowler at most shows from people that say they have never seen one. And the kids love them. But car shows are not for everyone, I understand the "I could be getting this done or that done instead of sitting here. We need to stop and smell the leaded fuel sometimes also (yes that sweet smell when a car goes by is some very expensive race gas) Have a good time This message has been edited by WildCat on 05-23-2017 at 10:13 PM |

When we were at the Woodward Dream Cruise sitting in heavy traffic, we noticed all the pollution from those pre catalytic converter days when the fuel was leaded. "Kind of brought tears to our eyes". |

This is more than a typical car show. You'll never go to another car show where you'll have 70+ Prowlers side by side. You'll never go to a show where people that were actually responsible for building Prowler walk by to see what you've done with yours. Last year this show generated $6,000 for Leader Dogs for the Blind. This year is the 25th anniversary and final year of production for Viper. There will be a large number of Vipers parked together. Yes they made 33K Vipers over 25 years versus less than 12K Prowlers so you car will be more unique. Last year this show drew almost 500 vehicles. There will be lots to see, a very large variety. Personally I do not like cars shows. I can tell you from my experience that this one has a different character. The people here are real car people not only enjoying old cars but bringing the next new thing to market. The lot is next to the FCA wind tunnel. No you can't see anything but it's right there. Ask me to point out what they various structures do while you're at the show. The very sad thing is the closure of the Museum. |

quote: I've registered for the CEMA show and I expect it to be unique when compared to the local car show this weekend. We used to get a couple dozen Prowlers together for events when I lived in TX, but now I only see them at Chrysler Nationals here in Central PA. Careful with the Viper comments - I have a 2002 Final Edition GTS (Viper Red with white racing stripes) sitting in the garage next to our Prowler. My wife calls them Anastasia and Drizella after Cinderella's Step Sisters. This message has been edited by TriJim on 05-24-2017 at 10:06 AM |

OK - so I promised a follow-up. 2d in Class if you just want the Cliff Notes. Woke to rain this morning so I drove over between showers - arriving about 10:15 (car show scheduled from 8-3) I was last to arrive in my class and one of the last overall. Under normal circumstance I should have arrived earlier, but not really a problem since voting did not start until 12:00 and many folks were just avoiding the rain when I arrived. I was parked based on class so earlier arrival would not have changed my parking. Classed with newer MOPARs - no other Prowlers or Vipers - Dodge SRTs primarily. Overall the show had about 130 cars - primarily Corvettes, Mustangs, Pick-ups/Jeeps, Camaros, and Chevelles; only a few motorcycles and other assorted brands. I was asked to judge the newest Mustang Class (after 2005) and found several outstanding cars (among 7 or 8 cars in class). Almost all had good paint and interior so my final selections focused on equipment and detailing under the hood. If the engine wasn't shown, the car wasn't considered for top 3 in the class. I make this distinction because I did not clean my engine for display. The hood shocks are flat and my Prowler does not have a prop rod. However, other cars used temporary props (like a California Duster) so I guess I need to clean the engine and obviously need new prop struts/shocks. The Prowler drew lots of attention. I gave toy matchbox Prowlers to several kids that were drawn to the car. Trophy for 2d in Class (which I didn't deserve given the dirty engine). Prowler is back in the garage after spray with gloss enhancer to remove water marks - A bit like washing down your horse after riding. Hope to spend some time cleaning under the hood before leaving for Michigan this weekend. I welcome your engine cleaning tips. |
