Just wondering if it’s my imagination or if someone else has experienced the same… From time to time (Maybe once or twice a year) depending on what I am working on, I remove the negative battery cable as to not cause undue hardship until work is completed (I do this on all my cars). In the case of my Prowler, every time I do this the Kat seems to run better on the side of performance… It actually feels more responsive and faster…. Maybe it’s my imagination but it certainly seems to perform better…

That said, and just wondering if anyone has an opinion on removing the negative battery cable as I have read post where some seem to never remove it at all for fear of computer issues…
Thoughts?
Thanks
Rich

The controller learns from your driving habits and adjusts accordingly. Removing the power causes the controllers to reset to the default settings. I would guess that you typically drive very conservatively.

Somewhere recently I read that after reconnecting a battery to a newer vehicle that has on board computers, it is a good practice to let the vehicle run for five minutes without any accessories or load.

From what I read, this will help reduce the chances of damage to the computers.

If I can find where I read this, I will edit this post and include a link.

OK, I looked through my recent "History" from yesterday and found where I read this. It turns out it was a reply from someone to a battery terminal cleaning question within the following thread.
http://www.carsdirect.com/car-repair/how-to-clean-car-battery-corrosion-and-how-it-effects-your-cars-performance

Someone asked this question:

If there is corrosion around a Batteries Terminal, does this usually mean that there is a problem with the battery and it needs replaced?

The reply was as follows:

No this is normal. The climate you live in you may have to check you terminals more. Keeping them clean will help in the life of the batter. If you remove the cables, or even only one. Most cars today have computer to control the engine running. After reinstalling the cable(s) run your at idle without lights on, no music on, or any other electrical things on. Most cars need 1 to 5 minutes to set the computer. That wait time is after it warms up. If you don't, you can damage the computer and have a costly repair. NOTE: After cleaning and the 5 minutes idle, you can coat the terminals and cables with most anything you want, however remember you will be removing it the next time.

I am simply putting this out there for you all to see. Do your own research and act accordingly. JMO
