How ironic. Our son is 13 and plays on a travel basketball team. They've been practicing 3 times per week since Feb. The season starts this weekend.
The coach has stipulated prior to this weekend's tournament that there will be a 2 hour " mandatory " practice every night this week, prior to the weekend, 3 day tournament. Dude, they're 13 when do they do their homework and sleep and have a life? Here we thought sports were supposed to be fun! Apparently not!

If the cost to have your son on this travel team is significant, you can be sure winning games will be stressed as much to financially benefit the coach as it is generate a winning attitude in the players. If his team wins, he can draw the best players, and perpetuate more winning, all that have parents willing to shell out big bucks to have their kids improve their opportunity to excel in baseball (which could lead to scholarships or possibly a baseball career. Or at least appear to do so)
