I sold my Chevy Street Rod Pickup and bought a 2001 Orange Prowler with less than 10,000 miles. The truck was more of a Trailer Queen and I was always worried when taking it out for a run. I would like to run some thoughts by those owners on the forum and get some advice about getting it ready for the Spring & Summer.

As I am without a service record, I think I should have all the fluids changed. I've had the oil done already. I plan on having the hoses & belts changed out as well. Should I also do the tranny fluid? Because the mileage is not even 10K, I wonder about the tires. They don't look crazed, but would like to hear some input. Any other concerns I should know about??????? Thanks guys! ! ! TED in NJ

Welcome and congratulations.
The runflats were as hard as a rock when new so it is a HUGE improvement to go to regular tires.
You ought to read the PROWLER STORY on the purple menu on the main page. A lot of great info.
Also, in the upper right on almost every page is the SEARCH icon. Just type in one word and search ALL FORUMS. i.e. tires, or fluids or belts. You will find way more than you want to know. Opinions vary, of course.
Think about coming to Mich in June for the 20th Anniv. and meeting some great folks and seeing all the mods.

Yes, welcome to the club.....as Ed noted plus you may want to do the timing belt as well. Not because of miles but due to age.....

If you aren't doing the work yourself and if someone is doing the work that has never worked on a Prowler you will need a shop manual. The Prowler is not built like other cars and there are a few service points you will need the shop manual for.

I would recommend that all fluids be changed and don't forget the brake fluid.

Welcome to the POA ersatz, you will find this forum to be the best thing you've gotten since buying your Prowler. I've only had mine for about 2 1/2 years and this forum has helped me so many times I can't count them all. When I first bought my Red 1999 I took it down to the Chrysler garage and had them replace the timing belt, all the other hoses and belts, replaced power steering fluid, brake fluid, had the radiator flushed and water pump replaced as well. From there I took it to discount tire and had a new set of Continental tires put on. With everything I spent somewhere between 4 and 5K but my peace of mind was well worth the price. I recently had the fuel pump replaced because of hard starting but otherwise the car has performed flawlessly. My wife and I will be driving from Tucson to Michigan in June and I'm confident that it's going to be the trip of a lifetime. Hopefully we'll get to meet you there. Congrats on buying your Prowler and prepare yourself for more fun than you can imagine. Jer

Welcome Ted!
I'm fairly new as well - about 3 years.
Now that you have found this site - it's all smiles and miles from here.
If I may be so bold as to suggest - find the Support The POA thread and think about making a contribution if you're able.
Most of us would be lost without the information and contributions found here.

When replacing your tires, you'll want to replace the pressure monitors as well.
Search the General Topic forum for "New TPMS Sensors for My 2000" and you'll find the correct sensor info.

Have fun and post often!

Make sure Chrysler did the Ball Joint Recall, There should be an X on the bottom of the lower ball joint if its been done, or you can call a dealership, give them the VIN number & they will tell you if the recall has been done

WOW, great stuff guys and thanks for the well wishes and advice. Unfortunately, I will not be doing the work myself as I've sold my home and moved on. Trying to find a reputable Chrysler dealer to perform the work. Looks like I'll have virtually a new vehicle by the time I have the car properly serviced.

I'm trying to price some tires. Can someone give me a decent make of tires to go with?
