So I want to start a new fun music thread. Bear with me on the description.

Let's go back to high school, back to a time when you were crushing on the hot cheerleader or maybe your first love. Now , what song was on the radio back then that will automatically take you back there when you hear it today? You know the song....the one that made you think of her, or had some phrase that described her , or describes your break up, maybe she's with the wrong guy.....
You hear that song today and it takes you right back there, to that time, when life was easy but seemed difficult, brings a smile to your face today , maybe you are lip syncing with a tear in your eye. Take us there.

I think will be interesting....maybe a new playlist!! Or good songs to add to mine! Add a link to the song .....post up a pic of your crush or hottie!

Could be fun reminiscing ,and a fun thread!!

I've got tons of songs that I associate with different events....Some sad, some happy, and some simply make me reflect back and think about the deeper meaning of the lyrics...

How about "Puff The Magic Dragon"?

It was a very popular folk song made famous by Peter, Paul and Mary....

Who doesn’t remember and love this wonderful folk song performed by the trio Peter, Paul and Mary?

Many thought was written for children....It wasn't...It was about becoming an adult and having a different view of the world.

Puff The Magic Dragon evokes that magical time in our childhood, when life was simple, Santa Clause was real, and when we actually played and let our imaginations take us to far-off lands like "Honahlee". We invented imaginary friends and something like a magic dragon was very real to us indeed.

The song is about the carefree happiness of a child that is lost when children become adults and have to deal with being "all grown up".....And Puff no longer comes to play....

Here are some of the lyrics:

"A dragon lives forever but not so little boys
Painted wings and giant rings make way for other toys
One grey night it happened, Jackie Paper came no more
And Puff that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar....

His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain,
Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane
Without his life-long friend, Puff could not be brave,
So Puff that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave."

Sing along...

"Remember When" by Alan Jackson.....My wife and I met in high school and were married a month after graduation in 1965....

We had been married almost 37 wonderful years when I lost her to cancer... March 30th of this year will mark the 15th anniversary of her passing. The lyrics of this song takes me back to events in our lives together...

In memory of the great life we had together, when I had our tombstone made I had them inscribe it with this simple phrase:

"REMEMBER WHEN......"

"Oh, Pretty Woman" by Roy Orbison.....In 1964 I was in high school and we were "Rockin' and Rollin" to Roy Orbison who topped the charts with "Pretty Woman" and many more....

Here's a clip made in 1987 titled "Roy Orbison, A Black and White Night"....

You may recognize some of the "back-up" singers that Roy influenced such as:

Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, James Burton, Glen D. Hardin, Tom Waits, kd Lang, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, JD Souther, T Bone Burnett, Steven Soles, and Jennifer Warnes

Enjoy!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PLq0_7k1jk

BTW....Bruce Springsteen helped induct Roy into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and he talked about people that he wanted to imitate in his own performances.......In it, he said "I wanted to sing like Roy Orbison"....(pause)....."Now everybody knows"....(pause)..."NOBODY sings like Roy Orbison"

Watch:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnyWZlNxyKc

BTW...When Roy Orbison was touring in Great Britain the group that opened for him was a group of young lads from Liverpool....They called themselves "The Beatles"

Also...Rolling Stone Magazine ranks Roy Orbison as #13 of
"The 100 Greatest Singers Of All-Time"

"O What a Thrill" by the Mavericks..... Here's a group that had some success about 20+ years ago but never became nearly as popular as they should have. They're a great band IMO...

They are still performing and still sound great but just never got the promotion that they needed to become super-stars in C&W music.

Take a listen:

"At Last".....by Etta James..............This one's for you and Bob, CJ.....Great song for snuggling up with a glass of wine and a nice fireplace...

The song was originally written in 1941 and recorded by Etta James in 1960 when it became one of her biggest hits.

Since then it has generally been considered to be the most popular "First dance" wedding song of all time....

Did you ever wonder where the band got their name?

REO Speedwagon was the name of an early 1900s flatbed truck, put out by the REO Motor Vehicle Company.

The company was named after its founder, Ransom Eli Olds.

After Ransom Olds sold his Oldsmobile Company in 1904, he couldn’t legally use his name again for a second company, and opted for his initials instead: R.E.O.

Because they were fast and able to carry equipment, many fire departments found the REO Speedwagon especially useful as fire trucks and adapted them as such.

The name of this antique truck sounded cool to the band, and so they adopted it and decided to “take it on the run, baby.”

'I'm a believer' takes me further back, when I was 6 or 7 watching the Monkeys on tv. That song actually reminds me of the smell of crayons. I must have colored a lot while laying on the floor watching them.
