Perhaps I'm just not meant to own a car this nice. When I first got the car I let anyone drive it who wanted, after all why not let dreams come true? So I let a good friend take the car to his work the other night to show it off, and when I got it back the latch mechanism for the front of the top was broken. He swears he didn't slam it down, but I have my doubts. I guess I'll be the only driver from now on...

My husband has driven my Black Cat a couple of times (not because I won't let him), my daughter-in-law drove it once when I first got it, my son drove it once, and my other son drove it once.

I guess no one else has ever driven the Candy Cat but me...but then no one has ever asked to drive them.

Not sure I want to have anyone else drive them........

I took a co-worker for a ride and said, "Let me take the top down". Before I could stop him, he said, "Oh, my wife's car is the same - I can do it . . . . SNAP!"

Now, if you have the Black Tie, I believe that it came with the old secondary latch (gray and weak). You should replace them ANYWAY. (Then again, I'm talking about when I bought spares for $2.37 and do believe that they've gone up). In any case, if they're not the newer/stronger design in black, they're going to break at some point anyway.

All the time!
A small gesture on my part usually becomes a major event in someone elses life.
It's only a car. Friendship is priceless.

Just because a car is clean, doesn't mean they aren't driven. I put 15,000 smile miles per year on seven cars, which is a lot since I am retired and which all look like they just came out of the showroom. I do have an automobile that is a daily driver and it looks that way

I've probably had a couple dozen people drive my Prowler. My daughter Lindsay has driven it more than anybody else but me including about 10 runs at a couple of drag strips. I let co workers drive it to get breakfast in the morning (as long as I get a cup of caffeine)

However - for the many (most)of you that do not use your Prowler as your primary vehicle, I can certainly understand your reluctance.

I doubt I'll ever let Cnote drive my car all afternoon again!

This is an interesting thread...I have lots of friends that always want to drive mine (I've never let any of them) because a Prowler is not the easiest car in the world to drive...what you can see is very limited and you MUST know where the front wheels and front nose are at all times because you can't see them. I made the remark in Mountain Home that ONLY T Bucket people are qualified to drive a Prowler, because they are used to things that hang down (like oil pans) and they are aware of them at all times. I've NEVER rubbed the nose on mine and probably never will because of my many miles in the driver's seat of a T Bucket!

Interesting replies so far. I guess I can still let friends drive it as long as I'm with them at the time. After all, Larry is right and it IS just a car and I know if someone had allowed me to drive one back when I had a 10 year old civic with 150K on it, I would have been smiling for days. As it is I smile all the time now.

People unfamiliar with the car have a good chance of screwing it up in some way. Not my daily driver and only car!

Good friends know better than to ask anyway....

NO - never!!!!!

Just an invite to trouble...

Don't ever want to have to say "Don't worry about it, pal...a little paint and it will be good as new" to a friend.

So far my friends haven't asked. I guess I will deal with the answer if this question ever arises. I have also never asked any of them to try out one of their rides.

I'm still trying to get my wife behind the wheel. She's a little nervous. Must be that low nose thing, not being able to see the front fenders or even the blind spots when the top is up. Yeah...that could be it.

Sorry to hear about your latch, Scott. You're having a heck of a time with your new toy.
I have a friend that I am going to let drive my car. Have actually been wanting to for a long time. We used to do a little "illegal" stunt driving/racing back in the day. (Ok, alot.) He's had a run of bad luck with his body the past few years from an injury at work. He broke his neck, had it fused, blew out both knees, had one fixed, and just had his back fused. Before the back got fused, the Dr. told him not to drive anymore because he was going numb on one side if he put his foot in the wrong position. Since the back fusion, he's been released to drive. He wants to get a Prowler, but has to wait til his 12 yr. old is out of school. I want him to drive one now. He may not get the chance to experience the thrill later. You only live once. Share the s-miles. (Just don't go overboard.)

Yes, I would and have let friends and family drive my Prowler. Most know if they were to screw it up I would put a hand grenade in their pocket and pull the pin...I've really gotten better about letting others drive my cars as I have gotten older. Dont know if I would let Curtis Blockhus drive it though as he is a A LOT older than me!!
(Just kidding, pal!)
