Ask if the ball joint recall has been done. Check the inside of the wheels for flaking. Inquire about any extended warranty left (on a 99, even a 7 year won't be for much longer) Good luck, hope you find one you like. ------------------ |

used cars are all the same pretty much....but, on a Prowler, I would look under the nose for scrapes and on the inside of all the wheels to see how clean they are....that will give you a good idea how the car was taken care of...the interior is always a good place to get an idea of the care the car had too.... ...if you have any friends at a Chrysler dealer, have them to pull a service history on the car...that will tell you what has been done to the car since new....and make sure it has a clean(not salvage) title.... ...these cars were hand built and door gaps and body lines vary from car to car....you should be okay if you just take your time and really look it over close and leave your emotions at home that day....good luck and keep us posted... |

hey Boomboom, if the original run flats are on the car check tire wear.... if the rears are well worn and the fronts are not, it may suggest some abuse. Tires are expensive !! make sure it switches from park to reverse to drive while standing still with the brake on.watch for clunking or slop in the drive train. Make sure the transmission fluid doesn't smell burnt or is dark. Make sure the dipstick has clean oil on it... if its dirty it may be a sign of neglect. Before you start it up, check to see if the engine is warm... some guys warm up the engine before they show it so it sounds good..... cold start with no excess racket is a good sign... when test driving take your hands off the steering wheel and apply the brakes to see if the car pulls right or left. I do all these little things with every used car i buy along with a look under the car on the hoist.... if they can't put it up for a look then they probably hiding something. good luck ! |

Hey Boombom, I drove the Black one at West County Auto Plaza and wanted to buy that one but they wanted too much for it at that time. Last time I looked they wanted 32,900 for it. If I remember it has 19,000 miles on it. It drove okay, its biggest downfall is tons of fine scratches in the paint. It will have to be buffed by someone that knows what they are doing to get them all out. also a chip of paint out of one of the front bumpers on top. I did not see anything major at the time I looked at it (about 6 months ago) all body lines were correct and I did not see any sign of collision repair. Century Motors had 2 Prowlers, did they sell the Mulholand? Also Century is a New car Dealer and may get you cheaper financing. I have not looked at the cars at Century. My Prowler came from West County Auto Plaza also I over paid on the Financing but only because I wanted the car REAL BAD. I will be home this afternoon and if you want to call me 314-423-8079 anything I can do I will. If you want me to go with you and look both cars over I would be glad to do it. Let me know. P.S. they wanted 36,900 when I looked. Barry This message has been edited by bbcar on 02-06-2005 at 10:08 AM |

Look for any cuts in the convertible top. There are some people who have had that problem. We found a small one in the top on Zack's cat when we checked it out for him. ------------------ Classic/Beautiful - I'm referring to the Cat of course! |

BoomBoom... To start with...did you run a Carfax on it? It doesn't tell you everything but it is still a good place to start. It tells a lot about the cars history. If you get the VIN number I believe you can call DC and find out if all the recalls have been done. I think that's what I did. My 97 cat was out of warranty so the first thing I did was do a compression test on the engine. Odds are that with only 9,700 miles on it there wouldn't be a problem...but it gave me a greater piece of mind. The difference being here though is that mine was a private sale. Bbcar mentioned fine scratches on the paint. If they are just scratches on the clear they can be buffed out. BoomBoom...you are already going in the right direction by coming on this site and asking the pros!!! They helped me out so much before and of course after I bought my cat. POA members are the greatest!!! Good luck to you!!! Brian |

boomboom, I have seen the one up at West County Auto Plaza quite a few times, and as bbcar has mentioned all the little scratches in the paint are very noticeable. That car has been up there quite a while. After seeing my Prowler for the past few years a friend of mine decided he wanted his own. I helped him shop around for a black prowler about 6 months ago. He looked at the one at West County Auto Plaza first, and turned it down because it didn't meet our expectations of what a Prowler should look like (especially for the price they wanted). A couple days later I found another black one at Century, he went up there and took a look... and bought it the next day. The guys who own Century are friends of a friend. I heard recently that they got another 99' black in, but I haven't seen it so I am not sure what kind of shape its in. I'll be more than happy to go up there with you guys to take a look at it... couldn't hurt to have a few extra experienced Prowler eyes looking it over This message has been edited by 2002SilverProwler on 02-06-2005 at 06:42 PM |

Thanks!!! The one a Century Mtrs. is the same money It has 27,000 miles the one at Westcounty has about 17,000 They have them priced at $29,950.00 which seem to be about right for a 99.I am getting insurance at grundy, unlimited mileage for $485.00 a year, If anyone knows any better let me know,As for the scratches I work for Dupont threw a local parts store and an exbodyman But for 30 grand It has to be nice. |

quote: I had a question on the part with the cold start shakes. I just bought mine with 7900 miles on it and bought it site unseen. Luckily it turned out great but was wondering if it is normal for the car to shake a little during the cold start/initial warm-up. Any idea? Also great advice from all. I just got my prowler and I love it!! |

Like any other car.........they're all different. I've never noticed either one of mine doing that.......but then I've not had some of the issues others have had. ------------------ Classic/Beautiful - I'm referring to the Cat of course! |

I would recommend buying the Chrysler Maximum Care extended warranty. As for the scratches, my car was covered with scratches in the clear coat. I bought an orbital buffing kit from Griot's Garage(Griotsgarage.com). It comes with a fine polish and a good pad. If you use their set up, the scratches come out quickly and it is pretty idiot proof. No spider webbing or burned paint...pretty much impossible with this combination of buffer, pad, and polish. If the scratches go through the paint I would pass the car up at that price. Pantera |

That's a GREAT idea. The Prowler (POA) Mafioso. Nobody messes with or rips off our members !!!!! As all have already stipulated - POA is the greatest. I bought mine off of Ebay sight unseen - but then again POA members knew the car and that was good enough for me. Car was flawless. |

Make sure the hood shocks support the weight of the hood. They are not expensive to replace, but why pay for them if you can get them to replace them. My Car has just shy of 31,000 miles and I am about to get my 3rd set of hood shocks. The 27,000 mile car is possibly close to needing tires. Keep in mind these run about $700 a pair for the rears. I'm replacing mine as I said with just under 31,000 miles. I would not call my car abused but I don't baby it either. I have drag raced it twice. |

Speaking of hood prop.I have had 4 sets, one at no cost to me but paid for others at dealer. Now bad again so I went to Advanced Auto Parts and they feel a little stronger and good thing is they said warranty for life,if ever fail just return for replacements.I think the cost was about 30-35 dollars. |

Put the windows up and down and listen for a "clunk". That can be an expensive repair if you can't do it yourself. |
