My best friend, (just 13 days older than me) :yikes: has had a streak of bad luck these past few years. Broke his neck on the job and, after 3 long years battling, got his neck fused. Recently, he had problems with his knees. Has had one operated on but needs the other one operated on as well, and is awaiting surgery on that, walks now with a cane, but first things first... Now he has back problems and his last visit to the Dr., he was told he can't drive anymore (revised to limit him to within 5 miles of home.) He is awaiting a date to have his back fused. This latest problem came about when at the Dr.'s office, the Dr. put his leg in a certain position and his right side (arm and leg) went dead. He has always liked the Prowler and wanted one for himself one day after his kids are gone, but that now seems like it won't happen. We've talked about him taking mine out for a little drive, but never got around to it. I'd like to let him drive it while he can, but don't know if it's too late now. I'd hate for him to be driving it and need to hit the brakes, and not be able to, and wreck it, possibly injuring himself worse, or injuring someone else... or worse. What's the consensus? What should I do? Let him drive it or not? |

I personally would not let him drive it in the city or any populated areas. Take a ride out to the country and let him drive on some of the less travelled roads, with you as the passenger. JMO |

Mickey - sorry about your friend,,,,but times have passed him by on being able to completely control your cat if a situation arises. I hate to say that, but you asked for our thoughts. Maybe rent him a Corvette for a day,,with insurance,,,,,and let him enjoy that car for a day. Your dream can't always fulfill someone else's wishes, jmo. |

If it were me and my best friend I wouldn't hesitate to let him drive it if he really wanted to and thought he could. Just be smart, pick a safe location and keep your hand on the emergency if HE thinks you should. He may never get the chance again. |

Mickey...........I would suggest that you take him out on a Sunday morning to a big mall parking lot before the mall opens. Let him drive it around the mall where there is no traffic, lights, or anything else to deal with. I know it's not the same as on the open road........but it's better than nothing. Once he is behind the wheel, it won't matter where he is driving..........just that he is. I hope things get better for your friend soon. |

I only met Tom-BackinBlack Santella about 2 years ago when he was doing a Pool in my new Subdivison. He owned a Prowler and someone told me about it. I let him take my Kat one day for a drive to try out my new gears. I let him drive my New Viper also. Its only a car, use common sense. When i was in Texas for Viper owners invitational I even let Barb drive my 05. It was outside the track in the parking lot around the track. It only took a few seconds to scare the sh_t out of me. She had very little experience growing up driving fast cars. She had no fear or realization what it was like to have 500 HP! Put her on a road with a few bends with cold tires and shes done. Give your buddy a chance just not in a populated area. ------------------ |

I would take him to Colo and let him drive Marc's car. End of story. Actually I would take him out into the country and let him take it for a drive with me in the passenger seat, if I could fit in it. |

I let friends and family drive my car anyway, so having someone else get behind the wheel is not an issue for me. As long as you believe he is capable of driving most any vehicle - go ahead and make his dream come true. If you decide he just can't handle it, be diplomatic and take him for cruise when you have some decent weather and nice scenery to look at. |

I am sure you have some low traffic roads you can go to, if you are worried about hitting the brakes just be ready to pull the e-brake. Let him drive it! It will make you feel real good for a long time. |

Chuck trusted me with the Prowler, the Viper, and then the Titan truck on the way back from a Jet game when he needed to take a little nap. I trust you too Chuck. Idive, if you can work it out for your friend, give him that thrill. You won't regret it. ------------------ |
