Mike K., this is your site, and I'm appealing directly to you to do something about the classified section, and all of the half-witted knuckleheads who jump in with negative comments.

There is something wrong when an honest member trying to sell his car has his ad and thread trashed by comments from the "peanut gallery". The way the boards are now, I'd NEVER think of listing my car here, and I doubt I'm alone in this sentiment any more.

When members are afraid to post an ad for fear of getting trashed, something needs to be done. I think that the classified section may be one of the most important services the group offers, since there are so few of these cars out there for sale...it's the one spot that a wanna-be buyer can see a whole range of cars listed on one place and get a feel for the market. Having the ad section turn into a forum for malcontents, troublemakers and nitwits just doesn't serve the group's best interests in promoting the image and value of these cars in the secondary market.

I suggest that anyone who posts an un-solicited, negative comment to an ad be dropped from the group, period - zero tolerance, good bye.

This has to be controlled somehow, and quickly.

I'd second the issue. I met with an owner from California Thursday night that said the same thing, no way would they post a want ad because they would feel compelled to defend their position. Its much easier to sell things on eBay, and by the way they bring a LOT MORE MONEY. Just ask the guys that are active on eBay. I know who they are as do most members. Why pay the costs and fees for eBay and PayPal is it isn't easier and brings the best prices.

The loss is to those POA member owners or want to be owners that can't find the part, accessory or car that they need or want. The board stands for free speech but why is any comment necessary on a "FOR SALE" ad? If someone has a question on the item or price, handle the discussion via PM, email or phone.

I have to agree with Dead end Don 100%. the Classified section should be just that, a place to list items for sale or wanted ONLY not a venue for people thrashing or price Bashing, simply put if you have no interest in the item for sale don't buy it. I have also talked with other Prowler members that feel the same way.

That's my story and i'm sticking to it.

I totally agree with ALL of the above

Classifieds should be just that, a place to list a sale or post a wanted to buy ad without being harassed or questioned or bashed or trashed by others !

Once again,,,
I'll ad my voice to the chorus.

The classified section is a place to sell or buy. It should never be allowed to be used as a place for comments.

Thoughts from the peanut gallery:

I would like to see two classifieds. One for cars only. It would be nice to see all the cars currently on the market, with mods, extras, etc. and asking price. Period, no comments. The clarity of the ad will determine its effectiveness. Have a second set of classifieds for Parts and Accessories that is more of a marketplace for the peanut gallery that is a little more used to the banter seen on this site.

As for comparing this site to eBay, even eBay has seen the need for interactive discussions on items for sale and is posting questions sellers receive about an item along with the answer. Just look at what comments the hiboy is getting on eBay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4504044905&category=15284

I agree comments should be restricted from the classified section.

Well, you are fortunate that you haven't had any problems. Unfortunately, there are a number of people who have.

Okay, how does that equate with simply putting up an ad in the classified ads and then receiving negative comments about what you have for sale and the price you are asking?

This discussion has come up before and it has been asked that everyone keep their negative comments to themselves...but in real life, that does not happen. We have worked very hard over the years to keep this board as positive and friendly as possible.........let's keep working at that..........

I agree that the want ads should be read only. If a person has a problem with the ad, then show some class and just shake your head. If you are that big of a loser and have nothing else happening in your life that matters get out your local ads and whine about something to someone who might just want to personally discuss it with you.

I agree to keep it they way it is, or have the option of turning off replys. I for one would keep my For Sale posts open for replies, so that if I am pricing an item too high, hopefully members would let me know of a more reasonable price (without being rude).

almost all the sites i visit will not allow your first post in "the classified section". MOST of the problems here are from people who only want to get on and make use of the FREE service.....

I believe that the classified section should remain the way it is. Most of the negativity comes from the same individuals and most of us know who they are. Sometimes the comments do strike a chord. An option to allow comments or not allow comments by the person posting the ad may solve the problem.

...I have posted quite a few ads and have never had any problem at all....my ads are clearly written and priced fairly.....many of mine are want ads which don't seem to be a problem anyway....

...Many of the problems come from "newbie" ads....they never contribute anything to the POA, but go "fishing" here hoping to find a rookie to sell their far overpriced car/parts to.... that is where I sometimes think it is irresponsible to have the classifieds potentially full of scam ads and no one being able to point it out to the unsuspecting or the uninformed POA member, but then again, we can't raise everybodys kids.....remember the Woodward with the wrong numbers, clearly a mistake, but it needed to be brought to light....

....many times I reply to ads to help post pictures for rookies.....guess I could email, but I probably wouldn't take the time and many people don't seem to reply to emails.....

...good and bad both ways.....many questions are answered on the board.....can you imagine as a seller, having to answer the same question 50 times by email because the question/answer couldn't be posted on the board....

...short of a full time moderator, I think the answer might be a 30 day suspension of posting rights on the board, second offense 60 days.. third time you're out.....but then who will police that....who has the time to keep a scoreboard of the offenders.....

.... I have zero problem with it the way it is, but if it is changed it won't effect me either....being in business and sales for nearly 40 years I have a very thick skin and rarely get pi$$ed off over anything anyway....

bottom line....quoting Clark Gable here...."frankly Scarlett, I just don't give a rats butt" either way...

.................thats my 34 cents worth ......

If it is technically possible, here's a resolution that I don't believe anyone could complain about:

GIVE THE LISTER THE ABILITY TO DELETE ANY REPLIES ON THEIR POST.

End of story?

Don't know about that. If the original poster has the ability to delete the whole post, if this right can be inherited to the "sub-postings" (other people's posts below) it would work?

I don't care which way it goes,,,,,never had any problems with the way it has been.

Suggestion ONLY:

CLOSED Classified Ads: "No reply postings allowed" - $20 for vehicle ads to be placed [payment via Pay Pal to POA] $10 for smaller item ads to be placed [same payment method]

FREE Classified Ads: "Reply postings allowed" ,,,as it is now.

Best of both worlds! If you don't want chatter,,,,then pay for it. The newspapers, AutoTrader, and eBay aren't free.

Just my opinion,,,,,like I said above, it doesn't matter to me.

Alley Cat,

That's a good idea. Have two different forums, one for free ads, other for payment!
