looking at buying a prowler and I had a look at a car this weekend. First thing I noticed was that thr undersurface of the nose was scraped. On further investigation I noticed that there were cracks on either side of the nose ( on the undersurface) just in front of the black bracket to which the nose is attached to. One of the brackets was also bend!! I'm thinking that the previous owner either did a really good job on a curb or is there more to this than meets the eye- previous accident damage maybe?? Anyone ever damaged their nose this badly on a curb and is willing to admit it!! Should I be concerned about prevoius major accident damage?? The other thing I noticed is that there is a lot of shimmy/shake in the steering wheel especially at low speeds. I know that this common but how much shimmy/shaking is acceptable. |

It sounds like he hit something a little too hard. I don't have a shimmy and never have had one. Maybe just tires out of balance, low on air or it needs an alignment. |

I would think that if the damage is confined to the underside of the nose that it would tend to indicate just running it up over a curb. Sounds like he did a pretty good job of it tho. Most of us have that nose scrape, but it's not usually so bad that it bends brackets or cracks the nose. Are the cracks in just the paint, or actually in the nose itself? Typically, you will find paint cracks on the tip of the nose if something was hit straight on (as opposed to scraping underneath). I agree with Ed on the shimmy. Typically, a shimmy indicates out of balance, while pulling to one side indicates an alignment issue. He may have thrown a weight, or knocked one off hitting something. Check the rims for damage. |

If it was hit that hard, there may be a bent wheel. I would have them checked. I scraped the nose on mine the first year I had it and it is a common occurrence among owners.....but you learn after you do it once. |

The tires on these cars are so hard that it can take 20 miles of driving to "drive them into round", especially if the car has been sitting for awhile. The hard tires can even bend a rim if it has been "pot holed" hard enough...I can attest to that! Give the front wheels a really good look and if a wheel is bent you will probably find it on the inside lip. If the car is a '97 or '99 it will have a rougher ride than the 2000's and up anyway. As far as the nose being cracked, if the nose is actually cracked through the material rather than just the paint, to fix it and repaint it could run you $350.00 to $500.00 depending on the labor rate in your area. Good Luck and the wait to own/ drive one is well worth it!! Buddy ------------------ |

The cracks are through the fiberglass -not just the paint Chrome on one of the front wheels is peeling. Everything else on the car is ok. Low mileage as well-less than 5000 miles- and still has a year of factory warranty. I am seriously considering making an offer on the car although I am a bit apprehensive because of the nose damage - maybe I am being too particular?? |

Michael, after finding out a dealer has it, I will post here that I think the price is too high. I did not want to jump into a price thing again, especially if it was a POA owner. You can find a better deal than that if you are patient. Besides, you really should get a RED one. lol. Good luck with the hunt. ------------------ |
