I actually like both front and rears, although I DO like some of the variations I've seen on "some" colors (ie. bumpers painted to match body) ... but the thing I guess I like the most is being able to tell my insurance company in case of a collision (God forbid) that the car was stock and bumpers were in tact. But I agree, fronts off DOES change side profile dramatically.

I took my fronts off the first year I had the car. My wife is my insurance agent and she still is not happy about it. I just don't like the front bumpers.

I want to keep my 97 cat as stock looking as possible. I think that both the front and rear bumpers accent the car just fine. It also gives me a little more secure of a feeling cruising down the street with them on. Besides...some of the cops in the adjacent town to mine would just love to pull me over and cite me for no bumpers. I also know for sure I wouldn't pass my annual state inspection.

I prefer bumpers on. But as with all things, each person has their own style, taste and preference.

Front bumpers off, Tom Mills light kit

rear bumpers, I have seen some I like but I have to have one that works with the hitch and since I painted the bumpers gloss black I like them a lot better

I'm not sure if a new (2-month-old) owner is experienced enuf to answer this! So far, I believe I prefer the overall 'looks' with both F&R attached...but the longer I own one, and the more variations I'm exposed to, I could change my mind! The F removed looks ok...but the R removed still looks ODD to me. As said, in a few more months (years) removed may seem more normal. That's my thot today!

We were die hard leave the bumpers on owners. We even had them painted to match the car. Changed our minds and took off the fronts and have never looked back. I would even like to remove the rears now but the better half doesn't agree.

Not trying to start a Civil War again,,,,,but over the years I've noticed that when you go east of the Mississippi River more of the owners leave their front bumpers on, as compared to west of the muddy Miss where more of the owners prefer to remove the front bumpers. Just my observation.

I like the bumpers, feel that they are an integral part of the car. There is the safety/insurance issue also...and the Bob issue. Seriously.........I liked the way the car was designed and bought it because I loved it. I have no desire to remove the bumpers........I did paint them to match for a different look, though.

At first I liked both sets of bumpers on the car. Now I kind of like the fronts removed. I think the car looks odd without the rear bumpers. It looks incomplete to me, but that is just my opinion. Obviously I like them painted to match the car since I was one of the first to do it on the Red one. They are starting to get some chips but I figure that saved other parts of the car from the rocks.

I like all the bumpers on but they do like like they belong on the play ground. I wish they could have been factory chrome, dreaming in color...I dont like the painted bumpers, I think the stock color breaks up the paint job. Having painted bumpers to me is to much of the same color of the car. Thats my 2 cents.

That red Prowler at the top of this page is simply Beautiful, however I like mine stock looking as I said in the other bumper post. From what I understand it is not that hard to remove them, take a few pohtos of your car then remove the bumpers and take a few photos of it that way, then I would keep them off for a week for you to get used to it that way and then decide which way you want to go. Just give yourself a little time to adjust to the car in it changed state.

The problem with the stock color bumpers were that the grey ones started getting mysterious spots on them. It finally started happening to mine, also. They put grey bumpers on the 99 black cars and then came out with black bumpers for the 2000 silver cars. Too bad they did not reverse that portion of it. The black bumpers match the chip protector on the front of the rear fenders and the other black trim. The grey did not match anything.
Once Blue Tie painted his bumpers silver, it transformed the car into one of the very best Prowlers, in my opinion. I like the yellow bumpers a lot also, but I think the Candy looks the best.

My car had those ugly black spots, some were from bird droppings and I have no idea what caused the rest, I used the same wax on the bumpers as I use on my car and about 95% of those spots came off, if you don't know where they were you can't find them. Of course now my bumpers are shiny but I am okay with that.

I like mine, and will keep them.... at least for the foreseeable future.... the question that keeps popping into my head.... and would like some honest answers from some 'bumper-less' people is this...

I know I spend a little time every time that I clean my car cleaning off bugs, whatever, from the front bumpers.... sometimes LOTS of bugs.

Sooooooooooooo, those bugs gotta be hitting the sides of your cars without bumpers, right?

Not a 'defense' to keep them on, just a thought....
step right up, if bumperless.....

Marty, Then you will need stock headlights again. Or only drive in the daylight

Geno, I have not noticed any real difference in the number of bugs hitting the side of the car. It may be because the car is wedged shaped and the air is deflecting them. What I have noticed however is that our front suspension A-arms are taking more abuse than when the bumpers were on. We have the old style smooth painted / clear coated versions on our 99. Not sure how if affects the later model rough cast ones.

Ed or anyone ... ever figure out what is the cause of these darn spots? My 99 started to get one last summer ... never a bird poop on them there, always garaged and covered clean ... am baffled. Also ... does anyone have the "paint code" for the gray bumper paint?

Rich - it could be you & Linda riding down the road hanging out the windows with fly swatters so you won't have to detail the car again at the end of the day's cruise.

Guys, I like both looks...although I'll probably keep mine on. I have a '32 Ford Street Rod and I am faced with the same question...Bumper on or Bumper off? It's a Resto-Rod, so I left them on also. Again, both look fine! It's great that we varying preferences...that's what makes this hobby so much fun! Pat

Those black spots could simply be caused from rain or just water drying on the bumpers, I have only owned my 97 for 2 months now and it was full of the black spots. It had a couple of places where bird droppings had turned the bumpers pitch black. I used a cleaner paste wax and rubbed it into the paint to remove the oxidized paint and those ugly black spots as well. The cloth will turn black from the dead paint you are removing and the bumpers will have a little shine now but they will look 1000 times better. My car now lives in a garage never sees rain and never gets washed, just dusted or waxed.

I debated long and hard about removing my bumpers, but once I got my Hot Bra by Kal that put me over the edge. This post back in January shows before and after pixs and discussion:
