I was watching American Muscle Car on tv this morning and I started thinking What is a Prowler. It is not a muscle car It is not a sports car It is designed to look like a Hot Rod, but a Hot Rod is a old car. What would you classify a Prowler as. Barry |

Plymouth called it "A tribute to the American Hot Rod." Pretty much sums it up for me. |

The Prowler is without a doubt...the coolest car out there!!! Past...Present and I imagine...the future. It still amazes me that one of the "Big 3" auto makers actually came up the idea for the Prowler. This car will remain the coolest...no matter what color it was manufactured in! Brian |

quote: A true Hot Rod is an old car. Howeevr that seem to no longer apply except to the purists of the hobby. Many hot rods now do not have and old part on them, just reproductions. I clasify mine as a Roadster. Tribute to the Amrican Hot Rod also works for me. |

I have collected a lot of different Plymouths over the years, but no car....no matter how you describe it ever inspired a group like this one. A tribute to the American Hot Rod, yes but it seems like so much more considering the friends I have made over the last six years. |

FL Blue Kat is right, New Hot Rods are being built all the time, so is that what you classify a Prowler? I agree with everyone else it is a GREAT car and unlike any other factory built car. But unless you classify it as a Hot Rod it does not fall in any other class of cars. For instance a Viper is a sports car, and so will the Ford GT and so was the Cobra, but the Prowler is not a sports car or a muscle car. I am not trying to be ignorant about this it is just somthing I started wondering about when watching the show. 30+ years from now how will people look at this car. Does anyone know how our insurance companys classify this car? I think my insurance company calls it a limited use luxury car, and we all know it isnt that. Maybe Brian is right there is nothing else like it from the factory so it is in a class all by itself. Barry This message has been edited by bbcar on 08-05-2004 at 01:02 PM |

Here in Arkansas the state Revenue Department listed it on my registration as a "Hot Rod". Go figure. I don't feel that it is any different than a new shop built Rod with all new fiber glass bodies, custom built frame, new crate motor, everything else new and high tech. The only thing different is we have, or had, a warranty. |

My State Farm agent, when I was getting insurance for my car, called it a sports car. 97's weren't listed in the insurance books back then so they didn't know how to class it for premiums. I was quick to tell them it wasn't a sports car... not built for speed. It's built for looks. I hope I got a cheaper premium out of it. |

Most Europe magazine write thats the Prowler is a Factory Hot Rod. Hot Rod stays not only for the old school Hot Rod style anymore. Modified pre 1949 Cars are Street Rods, but anyway, this is a very complicated dicussion............. Greetings, Matthias |
