Has anyone NOT replaced their lower ball joints?
I found out that mine have never been replaced
I don't know if I will have to wait until I get
a recall notice from Chrysler to have them replaced
or if I can take it in to a dealer and have it done
as a recall, as I don't want to have to pay to have
them done as then I would have to pay for the whole
lower arm and joint.
Thanks Barry

Barry,
you should definitely take it to your dealer and have it fixed - just tell them that it is a recall on the Prowler and they should take of it - you don't want to wait too long since it's not a pretty thing when it goes down and could be dangerous for you and of course the traffic around you ! JMO !

Wellll, I dunno--bbcar...howzabouthemapples?

I just acquired mine 1 month ago today--have asked the orig owner via email, but no reply--yet! I don't know how to check 'em & sorta hate to take it to [a] dealer cuz they might charge me for something which has already been done! I assume it has been done! I could be wrong, but, orig owner took primo care of it, so, surely he did the right thing, right? I will find out--eventually! Good luck! Ty-K

Just call you dealer with your VIN number and have them run a report on your car. It should show any work or recalls that have been done.

Larry,
It doesn't matter that orig owner lives in Orlando and I live in Bama--right? They run a universal search, eh?

You do not have to wait to get a recall notice. They are all in the computer. They can check on any car, from any state. If it fails and you tear up your front end, they probably would balk at paying for the other damage since you were negligent in getting it done.
Several local owners have not done it yet. I had mine done.

That is how I found out mine did not have them
changed, all the other recalls had been done.
I had a dodge dealer run my serial number and
the only service work done was recalls.

bbcar,

There is no charge for the ball joint recall work. It's a safety issue and DC will take care of it.

If your dealer didn't explain that to you or if they suggested that you would have to pay for the recall, find a new dealer SOON!

Be sure to go to a dealer with experience doing the recalls. Many people have had minor cosmetic damage to their control arms during the ball joint replacement process.

In my opinion, you should have the recall done as soon as possible.

The ball joints are not sold the same way as they are offered by warrenty. They are sold with the lower control
arm and yes they are expensive. If you can find a Chrysler or Dodge dealer they can run your serial number and tell
if they were changed. If you do not have a dealer to talk
to you can e-mail me your serial number and I will find
out for you. I can probably get you just the ball joints
but you will need someone with the correct tools to install
them without doing damage to the lower control arms. I think
the ball joints are about $25 or so each, the arms with the
joint already in them are about $700 hope this helps.

I have two ball joint recall kits for sale $40.00 each if you need them. You should be able to get them from a dealer for about the same or maybe even a lower price.
The kit includes both lower ball joints as well as all of the other small parts required to do the job.
E-mail me if you are interested.

Hello,

Go to the Chrysler website through the following link :
http://www.chrysler.com/webselfservice/chrysler/inde x.jsp?screenName=recall&country=us&emailUrl=goToEmailForm%28%27R%27%29

Fill in your VIN and you can see if there are any
recalls outstanding yourself.
If a recall has not been performed or has not been
acknowledge by the dealer it will give the recall with
an INCOMPLETE message, meaning you still have to do it.

Better news of course when no Recall's are outstanding.

Best regards,

Kees

Finally got an email from orig owner of my Prowler who says he did indeed have the lower ball joint recall done!

He also mentioned having Purple Hornie Glasspacks on it B4 I purchased car (he returned it to stock muffler but left baffles out). Any of you have knowlege of THIS exhaust system? He says they were just fantastic! Dunno why he removed 'em for selling the car OR if he sold them separately--email to him on this not replied to--yet! TIA, Ty-K
