It seems this topic hasn't cropped up in a while and has been on my mind as my kat's in the shop and I've reverted back to a plain automatic... Do you prefer to use the Autostick mode or let the transmission do the work? Anyone who'se used autostick for a few years noticed anything funky with their tranny? Although I've had my kat for only a month I find that I love having the autostick and use it for crusing and backroads but it's *insanely* convenient to have the automatic mode for either city driving or when stuck in traffic, situations where neither I, nor the kat, want to be Anyone else have different preferences? ed |

Funny you should ask - hadn't used the autostick much until today - drove the kat to work and was in alot of heavy traffic - used the autostick so I wouldn't have to keep my foot planted on the brake in stop and go traffic. Love the autostick for curvy roads too! |

With straight pipes the down shifting is great. I never used it until I got the straight pipes, however. |

Never used it until I installed the Borla exhaust. Sounds great. Hey, but if my tranny is gonna crap out, I'll go back to regular automatic! |

I use the Autostick 99% of the time. Personally I think it is one of the best innovations ever in a car. I have long legs and very bad knees. With the Autostick I can get the response and feel of a stick without having to use a clutch. If I had to depress a clutch it would be very uncomfortable in the tight cockpit of a Prowler for a person my size. ------------------ |

I use the Autostick mostly for down shifting and I have for over five years. We also use it in the Pacifica for the same thing. |

I very seldom use it on my 2000 Prowler or my 2004 Pacifica. |

I don't use it much! I find i forget its in autostick when I do use it. Its fun once in a while. Barb took it out by herself when i first got the candy and she had it in auto stick and didn't understand why the car wouldn't go. I wasn't with her but I caught up to her and told her how to use it. She hasn't driven it since. ------------------ |

On the interstate coming home from PTS I used auto stick to keep it from "hunting" so much. In doing this my gas mileage went up about 4MPG I always average 20 mpg pulling my trailer on the interstate with ac on. On the trip home in the mountains I got 24 on one tank and 22 on the next. I now use the auto stick when traveling and sometimes driving around town if in heavy traffic on windy roads |

Larry, I had forgotten about that and I haven't pulled long distance since that trip, but you are right. I did a little better as well in Auto-Stick, but I only averaged 22 mpg. I never got as high as 24. |

There's "D" option ??? I've had a Lexus GS400, test driven Volvo S60 and had a PT Cruiser loaner all with manual-matics. Nothing is as close to a manual as the Kat's autostick in my experience. Used it all the time. |

Using the Autostick shouldn't hurt the tranny, as it's electronically controlled. It won't let you shift into 1st at 80 MPH. The computer is said to know you don't really mean what you think you are doing. This message has been edited by Prowler on 02-22-2004 at 02:14 AM |

My first question when I started looking at prowlers: Can I get a stick (with a real cluth) installed?. Found out the answer was no (yes if you want to spend about $10K). I just hope it's as good as an autostick as everyone says it is (supposed to be the best). Been driving stick for the past 6 years, hope the change won't be painful. |

Normal city street driving, I let the computer do the thinking,,,in Drive. On our freeways I like to be able to shift gears (A/S) for accelerated lane changing needs,,,,meaning I'm not going to let that new Z pass me |

I use the autostick mostly with highway driving and mountain driving. Traffic here is too much a pain in the neck for autostick. Not had any problems with the trans in either of my cats. |
