Just got my 99! It seemed a little loud so i asked TATE CHRYSLER to look at the muffler. The tech said " what muffler?" So if any one wants to be even more noticable , that will do it!

that didn't affect the title, but the fact that the last two "owners" drove around with dealer tags, caused me to title it in pensylvania and pay the tax, and a week later re-title it in maryland and pay the tax again!!

Call Jay the shimmer man!! He also sell SSS mufflers that are supposed to be great. Easy install and your kat will sound a lot better. Good luck with the kat, hope to see you in july at Niagara Falls Event
Why would you pay taxes in Pa if you live in Maryland??? 30 day Temps should be all you needed. I bought a 2002 in Pittsburg came with 30 day Temporary tags. You only pay taxes in state you register the Car! Right?

paul...I ran into that problem when I tried to register my 91 Z28 in MD 7 years ago. They tried to charge me $600 tax on the blue book value. I didn't understand as I paid the tax on the car in another state. After hours of phone calls to my ins. company and NJ DMV I threw myself on the mercy of the MD DMV clerks. I said I don't have $600 so I guess I'm not registering my car! They said waitaminute and had a little huddle with the manager, and the clerk came back and said..." Just pay $100 and you're good to go."

Who knew you could negotiate your DMV fees?!?! LOL.

Geez, maybe I'll try that next April with the IRS and see how that flies!!! I bought my Prowler three months ago in Philly and drove it to VA with dealer temporary tags. I drove around for 30 days with PA temp tags and paid no tax to PA. Then I registered it in VA and paid the tax there. Sounds like the rule of thumb is that there is no rule!

pauldunn,

I have a stock muffler for sale @ $50 plus shipping. It has about 5000 miles on it. Obviously, I thought the aftermarket options were better too.

Paul,
I'm a used car dealer in PA and the situation that Bob Miller described is exactly how it should have happened. You do not live in PA and were not keeping a PA title on the car, so I don't understand why your dealer didn't just give you a 30 day temp tag? With a 30 day temp tag, it becomes the buyers responsibility to take the title to their home state DMV, flip the title to that State, and pay the tax to that state.

I agree with you Daryl!!!Why would you register a car in another state unless you have a second home there and you'll pay less taxes.

? How could you register it in PA if you live in Maryland? Wouldn't you need a PA address? Something sounds fishy. Could the dealer have scammed you? I think I'd have to make a few phone calls and check that out.

Also, didn't you have a receipt proving what you paid for it? I'm assuming you paid less then you were taxed on.

I took a chance. it's a private sale, no dealer. luckily we were able to skip the last owner all together. (two owners ago) signed and notorized the title in 2000 w/$40k as a sales price but never sent it in to mva. now he wants no part of paying the tax cause he "ain't" seen the car for years. (Three owners ago) wanted no parts of helping me get a duplicate title . Thankfully (two owners ago) did agree to let me pay his taxes and register the car for him. then he was kind enough to sign it over to me, thus the maryland sales tax w/ a book value of $32K. if no one was willing to help me i guess i could use the frame off the wrecked silver kat on ebay,....or maybe just use the VIN?!!!

WOW! You sure got a can of worms there. Sounds like you did what you had to do to get it titled. But soon after you start cruising around next summer it won't matter anymore. You'll be smiling too much!

Why in the world would you do that?
You got royally screwed.
What the dealer did was illegal and he should reimburse you.
You can take him to small claims court and you will win.
JRL
(I'm a dealer in PA so unless there's some circumstance you failed to mention, you're entitled to that tax amount).
