Is it legal to remove the front or rear bumper in the United States? I always thought no... Which States allow the removal of the bumpers? By the way, is it hard to remove the front/rear bumpers and how long does it take?

Thanks

Well Yellow i 'm pretty sure you have to have some kind of Rear bumper, But i don't think you have to have fronts. If so alot of people are breaking the law. I have Tom Mills relo light kit on my Blue kat and I painted the bumpers Candy on my Candy Red (Rears to). Fronts took a few Hours my first try. 15 minutes ea second try. Just need the right small ratchet. Take off the 3 bolts you can get at the easiest. Then rotate bumper down to access the last one. Rears are easy. Look up some previous Posts on bumper removal. There are plenty of good suggestions. You came to the right place for answers, this site has some very good knowledgeable guys and gals!!!Have fun with the Mods.

Rears are easy... 4 bolts each bumper and esay access. I THINK its legal to remove bumpers in Texas, but your insurance company might not like it much. Then again, they don't have to know. From what I hear, the airbag doesn't function (lacking term) off of the front bumpers. For legal issues in your state, you should contact your highway patrol and inspection station.

Front plates on a car in the states is only required if 2 plates are issued. Not every state issues 2 plates.

The Illinois Vehicle Code States in Section 625 ILCS 5/12-608 ..."It shall be unlawful to operate any motor vehicle ... unless such motor vehicle is equipped with both a front and rear bumper." ...

It is illegal not to have bumpers in Illinois but it is up to the discretion of the officer whether you get a ticket or not.

There are a lot of bumper-less vehicles in Illinois and there are a lot of officers so if you get stopped without bumpers be ready to play dumb or smile a lot or plead insanity

Chances are the officer just wanted to get a closer look at your Kat.

The Pennsylvania Law says pretty much the same thing....so when I take the kat in for State Inspection, I put the bumpers on the front seat and tell them it is equipped with bumpers. Been doing it for five years and every year they pass the kat.
