I would like to take a survey to see how many people drive their Kat as a “main vehicle” and who drives it as a weekender...

For me, all I can say is that my Explorer hasn’t moved an inch since I got my Kat.

Mostly on the weekends - only if the weather is nice. Once in a while I'll take it to work during the week.

Daily driven 44,102 miles since May 2001. Rain, snow or shine - no visors, no wipers - Rain Ex really works.

Drive it whenever I'm home, and it's nice weather, mostly weekends.

Every day since early March when I picked her up. I just this week bought a Bronco II from a trusted buddy of mine, but I'll only use it for hauling and driving to work in the worst winter weather.

2002 Candy Red Prowler - his
1989 Bronco II - his winter ride
2000 Mercedes SLK - hers
1997 Mitsubishi Mirage - her winter ride

Until picking up the Bronco today, we called the Mirage the station wagon... the only car we had that had a trunk and back seat!

Mike

p.s. Hey Marty, how does the Prowler do in the snow? The SLK is horrible!

I drive my '02 yellow whenever the weather is OK or when I don't have to take my kids to activities, then I drive my Tahoe.
I've got a luggage rack waiting for the hitch that I've sent off to be chromed. Once these are installed I'll be driving more since I'll be able to carry hockey bags, golf clubs, etc.
My office is only 7 miles from my home, so I'll even go home some days and pick up the Kat after I've used the hauling capacity of the Tahoe.

jmcant1:

My wife's 300E was awful in the snow too. Any Mercedes sedan we've ever had has been. She has a 320ML SUV that does real good though.
I haven't had ny Kat long enough to know how it will do, but even when it does snow I will not take it out. Few people in NC can drive decently in the snow, so I'm not taking any chances with my Kat. I'll take the Tahoe.

I have only driven on snow covered roads twice. I don't count 1 and 2 in snowfall slushie roads here. The KAT handles about like any rear wheel drive car or Pick Up truck - you have to be careful of backend swinging around. Actually with the big 20" rears it probably handles better in the weather than any of the three Corvettes I have owned. Luckily there is a self service carwash owned by one of my cousin's 1 block from the office, so between being home and at the office I can spray off the KAT often when I have to drive in bad weather.

I don't drive the Kat all the time. I have other collector cars that I drive, but I do use the Kat more than any of the others.

The King Ranch F150 goes out most every day. If there is no chance of rain, which hasn't been very often here lately, then I'll take the Prowler to work.
Wanted to drive it today, but that dreaded 20% chance.
I know Prwlyn, one day I'll let up on this rain obsession, maybe!

I got mine a couple of weeks ago, thinking it would be used for some weekend fun and an occasional trip to the office.

Problem is, the car is so much fun to drive, I'm addicted. Don't want to get in any other family car now. So its turned into a "daily driver" of sorts - about 15 mile surface street commute to work and back. However, it will never get out of the garage on a rainy day...

I'll put on more miles than I originally intended, but its too much fun to leave it parked.

Now, if someone could just take a look at the post re: 4 point harnesses on this board and give a couple of new members a bit of advice......

I still like to show my car allot so I only drive it when the weather is nice. Otherwise it's a pain getting it clean for the shows. That is the primary reason it is mostly a fair weather and on weekend only car. I have and will continue to drive it across country (mostly to Prowler Events) because its so much fun. Longest trip to date we put 5212 miles on in 3 weeks. I haven't been driving it to work because there has been allot of vandalism and thefts in our parking lots. However they just in the past few weeks implemented new scurity so I may ocassionaly start driving it to work again on nice days.

Driving it, as often as possibly. helps keep the mileage down on my 1999 pick up, it has 130000 miles, choice I had buy a new truck or a prowler, really it was not much of a choice. In MI. when the weather people (political correct statement) mention rain, it never rains specially this year

I put 28,000 miles on mine in about the first two years and have since put on less than 4,000 miles in the past year. I have gone from driving mine everyday to now driving once or twice a week. It has become more of an inconvenience driving to some places due to a lack of storage space and absence of respectable parking areas. I try to find time to drive it on the weekends and to work when I am able.

But I did drive it today!
A cool front passed through last night, it was 70 this morning with not a cloud in the sky. I can't wait until I get off work cause I have a bunch of errands to run around town, and yes, with the top down!
