I'm a new Prowler owner, it's a Chrysler 2001 / Orange with 400 miles. I'm looking forward to the club. One question I do have, is in respect to the flaking / pitting wheels. My vehicle was built in June of 01. Do you think I'll have the wheel problems the other members have had in the past. Thanks for your help. |

Duane, Welcome. If the wheels are going to flake or pit, you will know pretty quickly. It usually did not take long for it to happen. I had one front and one rear that were replaced and it was still while the car was pretty new. I have a 99, just for reference. In each of the discussion forums there is a search feature. It is on the right side about 20 % of the way down from the top. If you have questions that you want to research immediately, you can hit that and review what everyone else already went thru. This does not imply you should not ask the question. Go ahead and ask it. But if you want to do a little research on something you can check that out. There is usually a few different ways to solve most of the problems so everyone does not agree. The weakest point on the car is the center cap on the wheels. They are plastic and break easily. Use half of a clothes pin to pop it off. Don't twist it and don't use anything hard without putting at least a rag around the object or you will damage them. Get mud flaps immediately, at least for the front. It will save your paint job on the side of the car. Get Raybestos ceramic brake pads at Pep Boys for the front ONLY. About $ 75. It will save you a lot of cleaning of the rims and the brake dust will not be all over your paint, also. It is a simple job. Research the top. ALWAYS tie it down when it is in the trunk. It vibrates and rubs and you can rub a hole in it. Be careful not to catch the top in the latch when you shut the trunk lid. Don't lean into the car and release the seat back. Be careful washing under the back bumpers since the top of the exhaust tips will slice your knuckles. Get your teeth whitened since you will be smiling all the time. lol. PS We are having s small get together Sept. 21 in Germantown, OH which is southwest of Dayton, toward the Indiana border. About 20 prowlers. Nest Aug 24 thru 28 we will have about 100 prowlers in Pigeon Forge, TN visiting the Great Smoky Mtns. The best part of the car is this site and the cool people you will meet. Get active quick. You will see tons of modifications that you swear you will never make. And about a month later you will have several of them completed with plans for a bunch more. Mine is still totally stock (except for the mods) This message has been edited by ed monahan on 09-10-2002 at 01:20 AM |

Duane -- Welcome. We're also new owners (since June) -- just up the road at Fort Hood. I "performance drove" our Prowler at Motor Sport Ranch this past weekend with pictures to follow. The Prowler is a tough little car that is fun to drive. Look for events with the South Texas Prowler Owners and meet others with similar interests. I hope the recent rains aren't causing more flooding at Canyon Lake. Jim (and Linda) Bruckart |

Duane-welcome! In regard to the flaking wheels, I have a 2000, with only 5800 miles though. I changed over to the low dust front pads early and keep the back of the wheels clean. I haven't had any chrome damage yet. Some think that the pad dust on the rims can accelerate the wheel damage. I don't think anyone knows for sure, but you can save yourself a lot of cleaning by going that route. ------------------ This message has been edited by butchcee on 09-10-2002 at 05:27 AM |

Welcome Duane! I too have a 2001 and I just noticed 2 days ago that one front rim is starting to cloud and one back rim has a very small bubble on the chrome. I'll have to do a closer inspection this weekend.

Duane........congratulations on your new cat and welcome to POA! I guess Ed covered just about everything! I have a 99 black that does not have the ceramic pads (yet). I keep them cleaned, but have not noticed any damage to the wheels. My 02 Candy Red has the ceramics, mainly because some of the guys told my husband that the brake dust will stain the control arms (they are different than the early ones). Keep Prowlin' and you'll stay smilin'! ------------------ Classic/Beautiful - I'm referring to the Cat of course! |

Welcome. I wipe my wheels down almost everyday...But I am ready for ceramic pads soon. No pitting, but I wonder what the actual factor is in the pitting besides the poor application of chrome.... Cold? |

Duane: Welcome!!!! You'll love the car and the POA. I have a 2000 we bought new in February, now have just at 5,000 miles - going in tomorrow for wheel replacement at the dealer. My front ones are flaking. Ed's right - you should know fairly quickly whether or not you will have problems. Have a great time with the car and hope to see you at some Texas events! Thanks for a warm POA welcome ! In response to the flaking - pitting wheel issue, after using the " search function " it still does not seem clear what the affected years' or apparent cutoff was on the wheel issue. It appears as though most affected were the 99 & 00 models, with perhaps early build 01"s. Thanks again for the warm welcome. Duane |

Canyon Lake is located between San Antonio and Austin, west of I-35. It is near San Marcos and New Braunfels. Talk to you soon. |
