Is $34,900 a good price for a Stock, 99, Yellow, with 900 miles? I'm about to buy my first Kat and I'm very excite. If I buy it, I'm picking it up in Dallas, driving to Minnesota to show it off to my friends and family and driving back home to FL. I can't eat, I ca't sleep.. Its great to be in love again.

I sold a 99 with 1300 miles stock for$35,900 so I think that is a good deal, also on your trip up north if you have time give me a call and and I will try to round up a few others and go tear up the town ( and try to sell you some parts ). Real Rod Bob 952-873-6626

Probably is a good price but, check what the market is in your area. This things can be all over the board in terms of price.

Anohter thing to consider is the cost of you getting to Dallas added to the price of the car. A car that is $35.6K in Fla might be cheaper then airfare and a car at $34.9K

Check the VIN against wrecks possibly on the car and check that the nose hasn't been scraped (fairly common).

I saw a new Prowler that had only 300 miles on it but, I swear the car looked like they had put 30,000 on it. Turns out, they were using it for demos and letting the salesman drive it and all treated it like a rental.

Just be careful, not in too big a hurry, and don't let emotion get the better of you and you will do fine.

Lord knows, if I can wait for the right price, anyone can.
(new 2002 Yellow w/ 15 miles on the OD for less then $40K)

YellowFever is right. Check the car out thoroughly before you buy. When and what part of Minnesota are you going to?

They sure can be all over the map right now....... Have seen new ones go out the door in Cincy at 47K. Same car in Texas at 35K. Go figure.

Considering the miles on it, it's not a bad deal. But Tx is the one state where the new Prowlers are discounted the most. I have seen new 01's for 35k there. Even new 02's for 38k.... While I think this 99' your intersted in sounds pretty good, you might be able to find a new one for just a little bit more money if you look harder. I got my 01' new in Feb from Minn. for a real sweet deal. The deals are out there.. you just have to find them. Whatever you decide you will love the car!!! Goodluck!

apollo232:

I just went thru what you are going thru.
I started searching real hard in May. I found prices all over the board. I think an important variable is color. If you are flexible on color, you can find a deal. My family and I were dead set on yellow and I got one, but I think I paid a premium to get my color. I wound up taking delivery of a 2002 with 580 miles on July 12th for $39,640 delivered.
DO YOUR HOMEWORK. I would advise using Carfax to do a title search and Inspection Solutions for an inspection. I found what I thought were good deals, but found that one car had a title problem and one had been wrecked badly. Not saying that the car you are looking at is anything but what the seller says it is, but I almost got burned but a less than honest seller and a flat out lying dealer.
You also may also want to think about transporting the car. I got a quote for transporting a car on a rollback from Miami to North Carolina for $425. Knowing what I know now, I would be afraid of the damage that driving the car that far
that far without mud flaps may cause.
No matter how, when or where you decide to buy; just do it!

I just bought a 99 in purple in Texas for $34,900, with 600 miles on it. I have been doing a lot of research re: prices the last couple of months, and your price is right in line with what I found. Notwithstanding a prior reply, I checked out quite a few used Prowlers in Texas, and did not find that they were any less than the prices here in SoCal, or nationally, for that matter. I think patience pays off - most dealers seem to think that buying a Prowler is an emotional decision, and that they don't have to "deal" to get the car sold. However, with Fall and Winter fast approaching, I wonder if dealers in snowy climates will hold that hard on prices when they realize that they are going to have to "floor" that Prowler another 4-5 months before anyone in their area wants that kind of car again.

There are always going to be hardship situations with private sellers that might save you a few dollars, but I found that these cars are so spread out all over the country, you spend more than you save flying back and forth, and then paying to have the car shipped.

Be really careful on checking the history of your car. I found a surprising number of cars out there that were acquired from rental fleets. Several dealers with used Prowlers on their lots actually acquired their cars from auction in many cases, so its good to know who had it before you did.

FYI, shipping the car isn't real cheap - Dallas to L.A. is costing me over $800.00 for a covered transporter. Also, if you're buying used, the warranty may have "timed out", which leaves you looking at another $1,500 or so for the Chrysler aftermarket warranty (which at least one POA says has lots of loopholes - I'm still looking into that!).

So, if price is a consideration, don't forget all the little hidden extras - they do add up.

Good luck - its not always an easy search!!

Hey Everyone, Thanks for the advice.. I went and test drove a 99 Purple with 27,000 miles on it. It was a little more "used" then I wanted. I'm going to offer the guy with the Yellow 99 $34,200 and see what he says. Then I will go to $34,500... If he doesnt like that I will ay full price. I thought Purple would do it for me.. But I really like the Yellow... Thanks again!
P.S. Hey Bob, If I have time I'm going to call you.. I think I will need the front mud flaps. I can be reached at apollo232@aol.com..

Apollo, put the flaps on BEFORE you drive from Texas to Minn. I hope the guy is not a POA member or your bargaining power will not work out to well since he read you will go up to his price. I would start at $34,000 and maybe even have a check made out before hand and then hand it to him. It would be tough to turn down a sale if he needs to unload it.

Hi Ed- you know, i didn't even think of that.. I should keep my mouth shut. I actually found it on ebay.. But now I'm told I shouldn't buy a 99... I should buy 2000 or newer because of the ride and the updates... So now I have a bid in on a 2000 Yellow.. I hope I get it.

I have never ridden in a newer one. I have a 99 and I bought it new 3 1/2 years ago. I have almost 27,000 miles on it. I cannot comment on the differences but I have never regretted getting mine. I would like to buy another one but finances and garage space are not entirely favorable at this point. I do not know if I will let that stop me, either. Get what you like and get the color that you like the best or second best and don't regret not getting the one you wanted. If none of the colors mean more to you than the others you should be able to get a good deal. The other thing to consider is that prices will go down a little due to weather in a few months, but other factors could override that, of course. I personally think that prices will rise on the cats in the not too distant future but I may be in the minority on that. Good luck.

I have driven both. There is a difference, but you would have to drive both to notice. They both are very stiff. The 99 is less tolerent to the smaller stuff though. If you live somewhere with bad roads,,, then the 00' up might be a better option. Good luck!
