Here's a few pics Joe (Joes_Prowlin) sent to me and asked if I would post for him. You may have seen his post under I've had an accident where he had 12 staples put in his head. Joe's accident happened in Dec 2001. He was wearing his seatbelt. He told me he normally didn't wear it. However, after seeing a picture of wrecked Prowler from WI (someone had posted on the POA site) he started wearing his seatbelt. Whenever, Joe signs on he can give all the details. The Prowler did flip and he was hanging upside down and they had to cut his seatbelt to get him out. This is a pic of Joe and his Black Prowler from Cruisin the Coast 2001. Here's pics of his wrecked Prowler. The car was declared Totaled by the insurance company. ------------------ This message has been edited by Laddie Roussel on 08-08-2002 at 01:16 PM |

The driver's headrest is level and the windshield is almost touching the steering wheel. How in God's name did he make it out of this alive?? Glad they did but, god, what a ride that must have been. This message has been edited by YellowFever on 08-08-2002 at 09:46 AM |

Have worn a seatbelt since I started driving 35 years ago. I do not get in a car without one. Rather take my chances with than without. It looks to me like in this instance, it probably saved a life! |

Man I hate to see these - but I am so glad that when we have been seeing them, people are making it through the wrecks - I drive my children around a lot and notice a lot of people don't watch because they are too busy looking at the car - do you think that is playing a role in these accidents ? Back in the 80’s (when I first got my license) a buddy and I used to fly up to a local lake on some fun curvies. The only thing he asked (even though I drove most of the time) was that we wear our seatbelt. We figured if we were going to be driving like maniacs, we might as well be safe. Over time, the rule for me was any time I expected to be driving highway speed, I wore the belt. Of course I still didn’t know anyone that wore one. Then it happened. I was returning to college and on highway 41 in Indiana. This guy is in a station wagon and his wife is perfectly blocking his view of me as he tries to cross my double lane. So he pulls out in font of me. She screams, I veer to the left to scoot around him. When she screams, he stops. Now I’m not going to get around him. I hit him dead center in an Escort doing least 50. I walked away. I had the wind knocked out of me and bumped my hand pretty hard on the steering wheel, but I walked away. His child that was sitting next to the door I hit had a broken tail bone, but was OK other than that. My 2 month old GT had damage that accounted for 50% of what I paid for it and the wagon was totaled with the bent frame. I can still remember feeling the force, knowing I was going through the windshield and most likely die. Thank God and my buddy for the seatbelt. There is simply no way I would have survived if I hadn’t had it. Not everyone has the chance to walk away from the kind of experience to warn others. Especially those that don’t wear their belts.

Thank Laddie for posting the pics for me. After seeing 01's wreck I decided to post the pictures of my wreck in the hope that it might convince someone that would otherwise not wear a seatbelt to wear one. I did not wear one when I first got the kat but after seeing the pics on POA of a wrecked kat in which the occupants were killed I started wearing it. The wreck happened on Christmas Eve of 2001. I was going to pick up my wife at home and we were going to dinner at my grandmother's house. I was traveling on MS hwy 42 behind a truck. I was approximately 1 mile from home and the truck in front of me hit a large dog (at the time I thought it was a small deer). I darted to miss it and my front right tire hit it. I believe that because the wheel were turned to dodge the dog that when it hit it it jerked the wheel and sent me into a spin. I went into the ditch and hit a concrete cubbard which flipped me upside down. I was hanging upside-down by the seatbelt. The truck in front of me turned around and helped me out. The top was up and the bars in the top split my head open. I don't know if the headrest were bent at this point or if the bent when the rolled it back over. I believe some of the damage was caused when they rolled it over. I was not there because I was taken to the local hospital. I know that if I hadn't been wearing the seatbelt I would have received alot more injuries possibly even killed. I hope that everyone that sees this will be more concsious of their seatbelts. |
