When the car was delivered last night, they had lost 1 set of keys and told me to go to a local dealer and get a set and they would pay for it and the fob.

I went expecting to get either a black key w/wo the prowler logo on it.

When I got there, they showed me that they had keys where the part that is usually black, was Chrysler prowler yellow.

Too cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did anyone know that you could get keys to match your car from Chrysler? (or is yellow the only color other then black)?????

Sorry, no digital camera but, to give you an idea, the black part of an original Prowler car key, is bright yellow with the Chrysler emblem on it (not the cat). These are stock Chrysler keys and not aftermarket.

The cool thing was, the dealer GAVE me two and even cut them for me for free!!!! Now that was service (and not even the dealer I bought the cat from).

I actually prefer them over the stock black one that has the cat on it.

I have an extra remote keyless unit, I forgot give it back to the dealer when DC took my first KAT back, dealar told me to keep it, it did not work with my new KAT. Any one know how to change the code inside?

Having just bought a 2nd remote fob, I can tell you what the deal is. You must take ALL the fob's that you want to work with your car, along with your car to a local Chrysler dealer. You then must leave ALL fob's and the car with them for about 30 minutes for them to reprogram all to work with the car. (1/2 hour labor cost).

You cannot take just the 1 fob and the car otherwise, the old (or other fob) that used to work, will not now. All must be programmed at the same time.

Sounds goofy but, that is the only way to get it to work.

Marty,

So are you now going to paint you key to match your engine cover too? After all that matched before you painted it!

I'll paint mine Midnight Blue. Think Jay can make the shimmer?

Yes, you can program the key fob yourself - IF IT IS COMPATIBLE WITH YOUR CAR (actually, you can't change anything in the key fob, you need to program the car to accept it). I'll make you a deal - here's the procedure, but if it doesn't work, CAN I PLEASE HAVE YOUR OLD KEYFOB? (My PLYMOUTH Prowler and CHRYSLER PT Cruiser have key fobs that look the same but have different part numbers. My dealer told me that they are not interchangeable because Chrysler and Plymouth use different codes and I did confirm that they could not be cross-programmed. You apparently have a PLYMOUTH transmitter that you are now trying to use on a CHRYSLER car, which will not work (check part numbers). But, give it a try - who knows?).

Here's the procedure from the Service Manual:
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
PROGRAMMING REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY (RKE) MODULE
(1) Using a functional key fob transmitter, unlock the vehicle and disarm the Vehicle Theft/Security System.
(2) Insert ignition key into the ignition switch.
(3) Turn the ignition switch to RUN position without starting engine.
(4) Using a previously programmed transmitter, press the UNLOCK button for 5-10 seconds. While the UNLOCK button is being pressed, press the PANIC button (added note - hold the UNLOCK button for 5-10 seconds BEFORE pressing the PANIC button) and then release both buttons simultaneously. You will hear a chime sound to signal you that programming on the new transmitter(s) may occur.
(5) You may program up to 4 transmitters for your vehicle within a 30 second timed window. Press and release both lock and unlock buttons of a transmitter at the same time. Then press any of the buttons once, you will hear a beep when the transmitter has been successfully programmed. A chime will sound when the 30 seconds is over, or if you turn the ignition switch off.
(6) Verify RKE system operation using each key fob.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Really not too bad.

AND, if you have an incompatible keyfob, I'd love to have it - sounds like it would work on GRROWL.

Thanks.

UH, this key thing, is this something new with the later cars? I don't think mine has a chip in the key? And I don.t have a colored key.
Thats what you get when you have to be the first to have things. They think of all the good things later.... OH WELL. I did get a donut when I got my car ..uh and coffee.

Son of a b#$%$#%, he's right!!! I just did it. Now why wouldn't the local Chrysler shop tell me this???

They told me I had to leave the car for 1/2 hour (I did it inside of 30 seconds).

One caveat to this though, if you don't REPROGRAM your initial key (the one that worked) also, it will not work when the process is finished. ALL key fobs must be done at this time (including ones that did work with the car previously)

Just an FYI

Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!!!
