Being new, I need some help. I have BT # 160. Were all BT's signed by DR. Ru? Any info on the BT would be greatly appreciated. Thanks All!! Danny D. |

Danny - yes, the good Dr. did stripe and sign all the BT's. Maybe some pilot cars and made to match silvers out there without his sig, but the regular production version carries his work. ------------------

Dan.......Dr. Ru pinstriped and signed the Woodwards, Black Ties and Inca Gold. Here's a little history on Dr. Ru........... Dr. Ru's full name is Rudy Kutey. He has been a pinstriper for over 30 years beginning his career pinstriping cars and motorcycles. One day, while he was pinstriping a man's car, the man began using some foul language. Rudy asked him what the problem was and the guy replied, "I'm a Doctor and you should have been a doctor, too. I've never seen hands as steady as yours." Rudy told the doctor that he would rather stick to his business because there was no malpractice in what he did!! Friends were teasing him about the doctor's comment and said they were going to start calling him Doc. It ended up being Dr. Ru (Ru being short for Rudy, of course). He is self-taught and has said that other pinstripers told him that when he signed his name, he should be able to put a dime over it and hide it. That's why it is so small. Normally, he signs his name "Dr. Ru, that's who!" In the late 1990's Chrysler contacted Dr. Ru again and commissioned him to stripe the Woodward Prowlers. The Black Tie and Mulholland followed. As of July, 2001, he has striped 150 Woodwards, 168 Black Ties and 1282 Mulhollands. It takes him approximately 15 minutes to stripe one Prowler, which includes drying time. He striped about 10 cars a day. Dr. Ru has pinstriped several other vehicles for Chrysler, including some antique cars |

I know of 2 woodwards that were not striped by Dr. Rue. Actually someone on the board owns one of them. I think it was a pilot car, but not sure. It might stand to reason that a couple of pilot Black Ties could be missing his signature... This message has been edited by ProwlerOrange2001 on 06-25-2002 at 09:04 AM |

quote: CJ & 2001 orange Minor correction, Dr. Ru stripe a total of 154 cars as Woodwards, 151 of them are signed and numbered with him owning #151, any way ther were 4 stiped that were not numbered or signed 1 was a '97 slave car and the other 3 were to be Pilot cars S/N's 190, 192 &193, I own (or kim does) #192, which by build datwe and hour was the first 2000 woodward ever produced. DC says that #190 is a silver car , but Ru says he stiped as a woody..It is a mystrey, and I have not been able to track the car down, nor have I been able to track down the location of #193. When I called DC marketing, the guy on the phone was puzzled as to how I got 192 as he told me they do not sell pilot cars..well I told him I got this one, and he confirmed it was the very first and it was indeed a pilot. |

Mike thanks for the correction...I guess that my old age is finally catching up with me. Got a question now that you brought it up. What's the difference between a slave car and a pilot car??? |

As it was explained to me a slave car is just that, it is a non production car used to test things, like paint schemes and so on, a piolt car is off the production line car used for auto shows and marketing and introduction to the world sort of thing basically says this is what we are doing and this is what it looks like, again this is as it was explained to me hope it helps |

Boy there was a new gold Kat the dealership by my place earlier this year, I went down to see it and I was really dissapointed in the quailty of his pinstripping at least on this kat, it was the first one I'd really looked at closely, boy if that is any indication of the steady hand a good pinstripper should have, it didn't work for me, glad he never stripped my Kat. quote: While straight, the pinstirpe on my blacktie was rather lumpy. I used a very light polishing compound to even it all out. I was also expecting the pinstirpe to be somewhat elaborate and detailed but, it was only one thin line. I suspect though that cost and the amount of time to do each car had something to do with that though. |

My gold has the two pinstripes. The end in the front has like a half spear head design. The lumps are because the painting is done by hand. The lump is where the brush is lifted to get more paint and then reapplied to the surface. |

You have to appreciate the rare gift of a hand that steady. If you pick apart hand striping, you may as well trash the whole Prowler with the uneven door seams, paint flaws, etc.... Accept the Prolwer and the striping as it really is...HANDMADE ROLLING ART! Dr. Ru is a rare breed. |
