After thinking about purchasing a Prowler for some time, I made the decision to do it. I located a new '01 orange in my area , made the deal over the phone last Friday and then travelled to the dealership yesterday. I met the owner & saw the car for the first time. The first thing I noticed was the trunk lid was not sitting down all the way on the driver's side (it stood proud about 3/8") with everything locked down and the top up. The passenger's
side was fine. When we lowered the top the and closed the trunk it was closer to flush but still sat up higher than the closed door . They brought a tech in to try to adjust it. While this was going on I started to look the car over
more carefully and saw inconsistencies with more panel fits on the car and how a lot of things did not line up. After two hours of adjusting, they could not resolve the problem. During this time, the owner and his salesman tried to convince me that this was no big deal and that after the new top relaxed(this car is a year old) everything would be fine. When I told them I also wanted to drive the car before I paid them, they were astounded. One thing that kept coming up
was that the Prowler is hand built and and is not perfect. I currently drive an '01 NSX as my main toy and it is also hand built (this is my 4th NSX from new);l I have had absolutely -0- issues on any of them. I've wanted to own a "hot rod"
type car and felt the Prowler, having the retro looks but modern conveniences, was the way to go; now I'm not so sure. The buying experience at a 5 Star dealership has left me underwhelmed. Warranty or not, who wants to take their cars in to be repaired anyway! Are my expectations too high for a brand new Chrysler product? ( I did not
purchase that Prowler and it was the only one they had in stock)

The fit and finish is not perfect on these cars but, I personally have never seen one as bad as your describing.
I think you made the right decision, keep looking, there's one out there with your name on it. Good luck.

I feel the same as Gary...but also there has to be a substantial price difference between the NSX and Prowler.

Steve, welcome and I have to agree with you and the previous two posts. It does not sound like those guys had their acts together. It probably can be adjusted to look perfect but they should have done that last year. Go back and offer them less and see if they take it. Come to an event and have everyone help you adjust it. It will still be a head turner.

I have the same problem with rear deck fit on my Mulholland. You really see it in the side mirror reflection. I notice that it sometimes opens a wider gap at high speeds, presumably from air flow. I took it to a dealer in Connecticut, and they could do very little. When I got it down to Florida for the Winter, I had "Prowler Jim" at Massey Yardley in Hobe Sound check it out. He is one of the best techs in the country on these, and did improve the fit somewhat, but it wil never be perfect. If it was, it wouldn't be a Chrysler.

Do a VIN check...... Sounds like something happened to the car.

I agree with the previous posts but I have looked at a bunch of these and they are nice cars.... It is a great experience to own and drive one.

Good Luck !

Definitely do the VIN check.I agree with all of the above posts.

We did get to test drive my husbands Prowler before buying it new from the dealer. Of course they wanted blood before they would let us. The fit and finish is not machine perfect on either of our Kats. We love them anyways!!!

Can you post who was selling the car & where? I am looking for a 01' orange kat, but I want to make sure I stay away from this one.

I will sell you my 2000 black cat.

My panels fit fine together, that is NOT NORMAL or acceptable in my book. Don't trust theses people with anything, they just want to sell the car and will say anything to do so. Especially if they won't let you test drive a car. My dealer handed me the keys and said "see ya later", no problem with nothing to hide.

Keep looking, it is not the only Kat in the sea.

Steve,
I have a silver Prowler (with reasonable body panel fit) and and NSX. The NSX is a jewel compared to the Prowler, but the Prowler is such an amusing car to own. Good luck in your search.

some of the 2001 Oranges had severe problems with "fits". I suggest you see my postings about my original orange that I had to have lemmon lawed! try for a Chrysler and not a Plymouth Orange as these over all are better with less flaws, in my experience. Don't let this one "bad Kat" set you back, there are others and ones without problems. Never buy a problem car, it will always be one. Even cars made by the millions have lemmons.
