As I was checking on some rear tires for a Prowler today I was told that they will be no longer made. This seemed alittle strange but with the HPs in that size the EMTs sales took a dive. Now they still have alot out there but this was just a NOTICE. ------------------ This message has been edited by cnote6 on 05-13-2002 at 12:36 PM |

Is Goodyear not obligated to produce tires like Chrysler is supposed to make parts for 10 years? I for one am getting a little disturbed by all the accessories and other stuff being discontinued. The Prowler was always planed to be a 5 year run, so it should not be a surprise to anyone. ------------------ |

So, what's the cost for the rear tires? With these gears, I'm going to need to get new tires next summer. Should I plan on getting them this year instead? ------------------ |

Will another tire manufacturer make run-flats? I had a double flat a couple months ago and it saved me. I would feel insecure with just regular tires. |

I figured when my car needed tires I would not be able to afford them...Looks like I was right, guess when the tires wear out it will be up on blocks Someone will be making tires that will work but might not be able to get run flats...but who knows. Uniroyal has been making self sealing tires for some time...as the tire industry evolves maybe all tires will be run flat ------------------ |

My feeling is that there will always be 20" tires available as more and more people are installing oversized wheels on their vehicles. You would be better off worrying about getting the tire pressure sensors than worrying about getting tires. In just a few years many of the batteries in our tire sensors will be dead and there may not be anything to replace them with. I've been told the prowler style sensors have already been replaced with updated versions on newer and different model cars and are using different frequencies. That said,,, I ordered a set of Goodyear EMT today for the rear of my car from "tirerack.com" $294.00 each plus taxes and shipping as I seem to wear mine out faster than most people. |

"I for one am getting a little disturbed by all the accessories and other stuff being discontinued" Gary I agree with you, if this keeps up we will be lucky to see 20% of the Kats on the road in 10 years. It is already becoming very expensive to own a Prowler. How many people are going to want to own or buy a Prowler as they do other collectibles if the price to maintain them is way up there. With such a small amount of cars produced and DC not ensuring stock. I don't see small suppliers stepping up to the plate without charging an arm and a leg for whatever.

Thanks for the info on the tires, John.... I find it interesting that all of a sudden everyone is complaining about the discontinuation of accessories, etc. I know that some owners were buying things like splash guards, bras and car covers, but how much interest was there in all the other available accessories until the "panic posts" went up and there was a run on everything which then caused an immediate shortage? Perhaps if these items were being purchased right along, DC would have seen a need for them and may not have elected to discontinue them. If you remember the brochure that I posted that was sent out announcing a "clearance" sale, that was in the making before the "run" on items. They thought they were going to be stuck with all these things, as no one was buying anything. Go figure! They are at least making an attempt to accommodate us by reordering some of these items. They've added 32 more trailers after finding available parts. The mats are supposed to be ordered, even if they will only be silver. Let's give them a chance to discuss the items that everyone had a chance to post. Even if they don't reorder some things, there are always aftermarket companies who could jump on the wagon and produce comparable items. This message has been edited by CJ on 05-14-2002 at 01:26 AM |

I still think in a few years, a "high mile" Kat may be worth more as a parts car than as a rolling entity...intend to keep my orange one for a future parts donor for other Kats I own...... ------------------ |
