Bought my first Kat a couple mos. ago--2001 Orange. I've read probably a couple hundred posts here the past several weeks and have been able to determine that the first performance enhancement I should do would be the ProProwler gears---which leads to my questions: I've read that the 0-60 times for a stock Kat are anywhere from 5.5 to 6.8--pretty big discrepancy. I haven't timed mine yet, but am curious to know what I should really expect? Then; what should I run the 0-60 in after I add the gears? Next would be turbo or supercharger. Which is better and what will that do for the 0-60 and the 1/4 mile? As you may have noticed, I'm looking for speed. What else will help? |

Welcome to the club Rick... while your out hunting the big boys for speed, don't forget some kind of exhaust too. Also if you have not done it yet, put on some ceramic front brake pads and mud flaps. I'll let those who know answer your questions though ------------------ |

I don't have any official track timing - just stop watch on flat road. 0-60 average of three runs each: Stock gears 5.9 sec Performance gears/intake/exhaust mods 5.2 sec + 75 HP nitrous shot 4.8 sec Happy Prowling Marty ------------------ Driving my Dream |

Welcome! I am a numbers guy like you... 1st thing you'll figure out is these cars really don't make the advertised HP. Think about it.... mine weighs 2720 and with 253hp it should have about the same power to weight ratio as a Z-28. Automatic Z-28's run to 60 in low 5's and the 1/4 in mid to high 13's at 103+. But I didnt buy mine to race so I knew what I was getting. I took mine to the track back when it was cooler out. It clocked 14.69 at 91.39. I also had my G-tech on when I raced it. The best numbers the G-tech got 0 to 60 were 6.02. Sounds about right given the 1/4 mile times. I would think the gears would shave close to a 1/2 second off both. I plan on leaving mine stock, I've got my Mustang to go fast in. But the gears sound like a good mod! ------------------ |
