Now this seems to be a little strange...

According to the Daimler Chrysler press release, All the sales are Chrysler Prowlers. The DC press release says there were zero (0) Plymouth Prowler sales in April...

I wonder how much inventory is remaining on the showroom floors? From my observations it appears the DC Kat pipeline was about 3 months long. So by May 15, 2002 (Feb 15 + 3 months) the new inventory should be close to zero.

Yes - No ???

I purchased mine April 16 from Griffin Motors in PA.

I know that a Candy Red and a Yellow were sold at Nelson Auto Group in Marysville OH

I also know Joni purchased the one I had found at Monroe Dodge in MI.

There's four that I know of.....

There were less than 100 Plymouth Prowlers in dealer stock near the end of last month. With approximately 450,000 vehicles in dealer stock, Plymouth Prowler was just taking up space on a report...housekeeping. There are just over 1,100 Chrysler Prowlers remaining. Sounds like a lot, but is actually falling faster than anticipated. It wasn't long ago that there were over 1,800 on the ground.

Can you say going, going, gone?

Laddie was trying to point out that PLYMOUTH Prowlers were not sold. Not Chrysler but PLYMOUTH!
Bob, that is interesting to note on the remaining Chryslers. Mike are you going to try to obtain the last new Prowler sold at retail?

The driver side rear bumper has no name etched in it. The hood badge is a Chrysler badge that no longer matches the color of the car.

Are we going to have to start a new board for those of us with Chrysler Prowlers because those with Plymouth versions fell they have a different class of vehicle? As far as I know it was the same people and same parts for both production runt sets. I’m sure those folks were just happy to not have the passing of Plymouth determine the passing of the Prowler. The only vehicle to survive …

Whealy, I do not think anyone was implying that. Laddie has been tracking the sale of Prowlers since the inception and sometimes he gets numbers that do not make sense. He is trying to keep track of them and it is hard to do when the info is misleading.
A lot of people like the name PLYMOUTH but a lot of people like the Mulholland or Deep Candy Red the best so therefore it is not important which brand name is on the car. The dealers were given a rebate on the Plymouths and therefore Plymouths actually went down in price in the past few months. Laddie is interested in the numbers sold and still available and it is broken down by color, year and whether it is a Chrysler or Plymouth. As the owner of a 99 Plymouth, I certainly do not think mine is better. I like mine because it is Red. The 2000 and newer have a softer ride and some other improvements so there are benefits to owning a later model. I hope this clears up what you thought was a potshot by me or someone else on this thread.

No hard feelings for me nor was I trying to extend any. I’m just happy they continued production as long as they did.

Back in 2000 I sat in a red I think. That was all I could do as it was sold and I couldn’t find any others. At the time I was looking for a daily driver. It was obvious that the cat would not fit that requirement for me and my Boxster was treating me well.

So a few years pass and now I’m in a position to get a third car. I’m all but locked into a Boxster S when a friend sends me a local dealer’s web page to point out a Mini. Not to my liking but there’s a 99 Purple Cat in the list. I start to remember what I liked about it and pulled out the old 2000 brochure. So I start looking and realize that these are still around. My though was that production had stopped last year for some reason. So after I find one that I can test drive, I also start looking on the web for info. I stumbled on this site and it put all the pieces together for me. This is where I want to be.

Actually I think it’s kind of lame with the no color hood badge and the lack of the Chrysler name on the left bumper. But it did save me money on the Shimmers!

I’m just happy to be here!

Given the tracking of the various colors and such, surely there's an answer to this:

just how does one determine the "production number" of any given Kat? Is it a decoding of the VIN?

(Sorry if this is a FAQ -- I didn't find anything on the site, but it's impossible to check every page. :-)

bbrighton, you can do a search for particular words or phrases if you look on the right side of the page about 1/4 down from the top. You will then get a menu and be sure to search all open forums and topics.
The VIN numbers are sequential, of course, but they are shared with Vipers, so you cannot determine the total amount produced in a day (or a week, or a month) by getting the first and last VIN. They do not necessarily go down the line in exact order either. Therefore you can only get a general idea.
There are markings that tell you the date and time that the car was assembled, however. Laddie is the residential guru on the numbers so you can email him and he can explain it to you.
Did you look at the facts and stats on the main menu? There is a lot of good info there.

Thanks for the info, Ed. I guess I confused the issue I was asking about by trying to make sure it was relevant to this thread.

I'm in the process of buying a Kat (deal's not quite closed yet) and am interested in knowing it is "x of y" (you know, like it was "#20 of 301", for example) in that color.

The 'y' (how many of each color) can be found here, under the stats category (and I agree, there's plenty of interest there :-)

What I was wondering is, how do you tell (if at all) which of that production run the car is?

Of course, I looked for the search and missed it (not a computer newbie, and sometimes that actually puts me at a disadvantage ;-). But searching on "production number" yields lots of other interesting stuff, just not what I'm looking for.

Sorry for any confusion and thanks for the pointers!

Brad, I do not think you can determine the exact number. You can get close by looking at the month/date/hour on the door decal. Then you can try to do the math to figure out about where you car lies. I brought a thread to the top entitled "Where is the Von" and that partially explains it. Hopefully someone else will chime in and straighten us both out on this.
By the way, make sure to read THE PROWLER STORY on the main menu. It is very interesting.

Brad,

There is info on decoding the VIN on the bottom of the Owner's Registry

You can see from this discussion thread, that the VIN doesn't tell you a whole lot about the production order: http://www.prowleronline.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/005503.html

Look here too: http://www.prowleronline.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/004493.html

I haven't been able to find out exactly which one mine is of the 2002 production year.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll have to wait for it to arrive to try to nail down the approximate ordinal placement. I've already confirmed it's not one of the last 5 as listed in one of the posts. Oh well. ;-)
