So what is it that the Pro Gears bring to the table? I’ve searched the archive and have yet in my efforts to find a clear description. I realize that they change the RMP’s for a particular speed, but I don’t understand how this would be beneficial. Can you enlighten me on what you are experiencing?

Glad you made a good investment!

It changes the final drive gear ratio. This in turn makes the car respond quicker

I see you are from Carmel, come to the cruise in at Sam's club on Friday night on east Washington street in Indy and I will explain furture if you still do not understand how the gears will liven up the car.

I usually have Prowler shirt on and driving the car below

Stock Final Drive Ratio 2.68

Prowler Pro Final Drive Ratio 3.42

Notes from Dean:
---------------------------
Gear Ratios:

When referring to Rear end ratio we must be sure we are comparing "apples to apples." American muscle cars used to have a Top gear ratio of 1.00 to 1.00.

So comparing differential gear ratios made sense Differential Ratio = Final Drive Ratio.

However, with today's cars 4th gear is overdrive (< 1.00 to 1.00).
So when calculating Stock Prowlers FINAL DRIVE RATIO =

Differential Ratio x 4th gear Ratio = 3.89 x .69 = 2.68
Prowler Pro gears increase the Final Drive ratio by 27 %.
So PROWLER PRO FINAL DRIVE RATIO = 2.68 x 1.27 = 3.42

Installation:

The gearset fits without any modifications to the cover and does not requires any
additional shims or spacers. The only thing you will need to obtain is 2 quarts of
automatic transmission fluid (Chrysler ATF +3 or +4 depending on the year of your
Prowler.) Installation time is 3 hours or less and is 100% reversible.

Dimensions and Strength:

Chain width stock 2 chains at 0.625" = 1.25"
Chain width Prowler Pro = 1.75"
40% more contact area

Cruisability:

RPM @ 80mph in 4th gear stock = 2400
RPM @ 80mph in 4th gear Prowler Pro = 3100

Shift Points:

stock 1st gear to 2nd= 48 mph
Prowler Pro 1st gear to 2nd = 37 mph

stock 2nd to 3rd= 89 mph
Prowler Pro 2nd gear to 3rd = 71 mph

This question gets ask frequently. So maybe some analogies would help.

Here are two. If others think of more please add to the list.

1. It’s like a 10-speed bike that has a high and low sprocket in the front. The Pro Gears change the final drive ratio like when you shift the 10 speed from high to low gears.

2. When diving a manual transmission have you ever started from dead stop in 2nd gear? You can do it but it's really slow to get the car moving. The Pro Gears are like adding a lower 1st gear.

Any others?

OK.....

Here goes mine.

I was told on previous posts that the Gears, intake and Exhaust were the cheapest, quickest ways to up the performance of the Kat. Picked up a Mopar Performance exhaust - will wait till Louisville to decided to either install, or choose another....

Gears - When you install the Pro Gears, what happens to your Speedometer and RPM readings ? Are they still accurate ? Is there a change that takes care of this ?

Also, what about Gas Mileage ? (Ok, I know, stupid question) but does it significantly impact you Gas Mileage or your RPM's on the Highway, say like if I were to drive to one of our events ?

Just how much quicker 0-60 and 1/4 mile times do the gears make ? I would like for my car to be able to play red light/green light with most cars around...... Thanks !

As I understand it, what you achieve getting off the line
quicker, you will lose at the top end. Is this correct
guys??

John, the RPM readings are taken from the engine and aren't affected by the gear change other then you will be turning a higher RPM for a given speed then before. The speedo is recalibrated by a box that is included with the gear set and mounts in the trunk next to the TCM. Using a radar gun, I found it to be within 1 to 1 1/2 MPH of the speedo reading.
I dont remember if it read fast or slow. On a trip from Virginia to NY, I got over 20 MPG at 65 using cruze control.
I paid 2k for my set and think the new price is a pretty good deal.
1/4 times improve by around a half second depending on the year car. I think 2000 and earlier cars will benefit more because of a tighter torque converter. Top speed might be the same because it's limited anyway by the car's computers.

Thanks Al,

1/2 second is excellent. I would bet it REALLY wakes the car up to 60 MPH. I got about 24 MPG bringing the car back from PA on it's maiden voyage so it sounds like you do lose some mileage. Are these cars transmissions stout enough to handle lots of HP/torque improvements ? Again, thank you for answering my questions.

The gears are about having fun. The car stays in the torque power band when driving around town. When commuting on interstate, you don't have to downshift for the majority of passes unless you just want to nail it. The car is quicker in the 1 st, 2nd , and 3rd gears. I have only driven it once since gears over 100 but felt like there ws plenty more there. Fuel milage - 20.6 MPG pulling trailer Kentucky to Texas and back 70- 75 MPH. I figure MPG dropped by about 2 to 3 MPG small price to pay for the fun factor.

Happy prowling

Marty
