Recently, I asked my dealer if he could find a new Black Tie, and if so could we make a decent trade for the Mulholland I bought from him in Oct. Well, he found a new BT and bought it. He'll have it by the weekend. Now the deal. He will take $4,500.00 and my kat in trade. Simple as that. I paid sticker $46,000 for the Mulholland, and the sticker for the Black Tie is $47,000. He is going to hold the Black Tie for a few days while I make up my mind. Now reality. I can't have them both. I love the Mulholland, but REALLY love the BT. I can afford to trade, but doing the math I would have over $50,000 in the new kat. That could be a big mistake. I'm asking for the honest opinions of my fellow Prowleronline members because the advice here is always so good, and free!!! Besides, I just recently lost my best car bud, and don't have anyone to discuss this with. Sorry this was soooooo long, but I have a big decision to make. Thanks! Hotrod... or ? ------------------ |

The old man replies.... "You can't put a price tag on happiness." If you really want a Black Tie this is a fantastic opportunity. You get a brand new car, although maybe a year older, but it is a true limited edition as only 168 were made. The $4,500 trade difference is a great deal as the dealer gets a used car back and sells a collector car in its place. Normally, I do not rapidly agree to a deal that any dealer proposes but in this case it seems more than fair. If you really want one, jump on it and don't look back! Gotta run as my new Etch-A-Sketch just came in and I want to draw a picture of this potential situation for Dew Drop before she gets home. Scot ------------------ |

Another way to think about it if it will make you feel better....In reality, the value of a slightly used Mullholland is approximately $35-36K....add $4500. to that amount and you have a Black Tie for $40K...Now, does this sound better.....If I wanted the Black tie, I would GO FOR IT in a flash....I recently traded my Mullholland(235 miles) for a Kandy...just never liked the blue after I got it...it was a beautiful car, no doubt about it...just not what I wanted....TRADE, SMILE ALOT and never look back But most importantly, DRIVE IT KID!!!!! ------------------ |

Go for the BT. You will always regret not having the color you really want. By dumb luck and a great friend (david nazem) I was able to get the color I REALLY wanted all along. I also love the BT and the Woodward. For me though I'm happiest with the DCR. I'm going to have custom paint work done on it and the two-tones just don't look right with what I have in mind. GET THE BT!!! My Motto: "It's only money; I'll make more!" ------------------ |

I concur with the group. The Black Tie is what you want, it's one of the RAREST breed of cat, and you can get an affordable deal on it. GO FOR IT! Mike ------------------ |

I've seen an ad for a new Black Tie in Auto Week classified on more then one occasion recently. The same dealer had a new MH Blue listed for $40k recently too. A similar deal might be had on the BT! I did a lot of looking for my Kat in Jan. I found a great deal on mine out of state. If I were you I would look around on your own 1st. There are a lot of motivated dealers out there! The Black Tie is also a Plymouth correct? If so the dealers get $8K factory to dealer incentive on it!! Just some food for thought. I got my new 01' Plymouth Prowler in Feb. for less then used ones are going for! You just gotta look.... I know a BT might seem very rare, and it is, but you never know! ------------------ |

C5 is right, my buddy bought a BT the same time that I bought my Orange Pearl, we both got the $8,500 credit. However that credit was given to the dealer and he did not have to pass it on. You just need to find the dealer who is ready to deal. By all means get the car that you really want! Also ask yourself this is it an investment or a love affair? If its Lovedo the right thing! ------------------ |

If the Black Tie is really what you want, then go for it. If you intend to keep the car for the long run, what you pay now won't really matter. ------------------ |

Even though I'm a Maze & Blue kind of guy, I would probably do the BT. Fewer quantity made, better long term value. You would HAVE to do a chrome grill too! For the price differential - try to talk the dealership into (best) extended warranty! This will assist in covering the added year older car. When the standard 3/36 warranty expires, you'll need the extension. Anything that goes wrong with these cars is very expensive. One roof latch is $215, just because of a little piece of plastic. Be wise & be cool. In any case, you have a Prowler. PS - Purple is still number ONE. ------------------ |

Buy the Black Tie if that's what you rally want. I am not just saying top try to get you to bring as Black Tie to Louisville so we will have every color represented. (Don't you love peer pressure) The Black Tie is a classy looking color combination and was built in limited quantities. But your post sounds like that is what you REALLY want - go for it. ------------------ Driving my Dream This message has been edited by Marty Usher on 04-10-2002 at 06:39 AM |

Get what you want in the first place, I always wanted a red Prowler. Couldn't find one last summer, almost got a Blue wife didnt like it. In stead I got a 2002 red roadster Vette loaded. I have a buddy who has a 2000 Black Kat, I could never keep my eyes off it... Went to the LA Auto Show in Jan. There it was a 2002 Candyred Prowler, real cool and real hot. Had my Vette for less than 4 months sold it in the next 3 days, made a couple bucks on it. Made the Mrs happy and found a dealer in Ohio from the Autoweek mag. who had a Candyred coming in. Dont settle for less and dont try to convince your self for something you dont really want, like I did. If I didnt get a GM discount from my stepdad in Michigan for the Vette I wouldnt have been able to sell the Vette with out losing money. It pays to get what you want in the long run. |
