does any one know how far you can go when the gauge hits the E mark. I go long distances between gas stations and with a small gas tank I am just wondering.

Never been there or done that, but my guess would be about 40 to 50 miles because there is usually about 3 gallons left when the gauge hits E.

I ran out of gas in mine last year. I guestimated that once the light comes on that I have about 60 miles left. Well I drove +60 miles and decided to push it the next day, since the gas station was less thas a mile away from my house. I got about half way to the gas station and the car started to stutter and eventually shut off and coasted until the car finally stopped. So I put my hazards on and got out of the car to attempt to push it the additional 100 feet to the gas station. Since I am Irish (my girlfriend says I was born with a shamrock in one of my orifices) and have the best luck, one of my friends happened to be directly behind me had a truck with a 5 gallon can in the bed. So he jumped out of his truck, grabbed the gas can, and proceeded to put gas in my car. I wonder what the passersby were thinking when they saw a guy just jump out of his truck, put gas in my car and then just drive off.

When traveling I don't like to push it much past 150 miles before I refill.

I think 50-60 miles is a reasonable amount when the low fuel lights up unless you have a heavy foot. I've gone 230 miles once and my wife was banging on my head the last 20 miles for not stopping at one gas station.

It it's a quarter tank, and I hit a gas station. It does drop fast thr rest of the way and I don't want to chance sucking up crud into the injectors ... plus with gas prices all over the place as they are, you can be picky at 1/4 tank ... on E you better break out the mastercard!

The gas gauge is an estimate. I doubt any 2 cars could be driven the exact same miles.

Our whirlbird pilot ran out of fuel on his way to "Woodward 2000" when he thought he had plenty. Had to hitch a ride on a pig truck. He stated the chopper had a better fuel gauge. Yep he is one Lucky Duck LOL.

Just food for thought. The fuel pump is in the fuel tank. It is cooled by the fuel in the tank, running the tank bone dry lets it run hotter and increases the chance of failure and picking up settiment in the tank to plug up the filter. Wouldn't it be better to stop every 125~150 miles, get out and stretch your legs and answer questions at the gas station about the car.

1/4 tank I'm looking for place to stop. ONLY if I'm on tight schedule will I stretch out the stops. But as soon as the light comes on I'm in nearest station. I have 2 gallons left at that point. 19~20 MPG pulling trailer at 70~75MPH

Speakin of fuel........ (Had to speak of somethin')... anyone (besides me in all MY experience notice the fuel gauge Really Jumpin around when 'under load' ? I mean, give it a lil , and the tank goes up/down by as much as a quarter tank and may take a mile or more to settle back down.... bad gauge, or characteristic ?

Guess I CAN live with it tho ! lol

That is Right , Fuel pump is at the tank //Run It Dry ,even for a few Seconds //Prepare to buy a new Pump ..Had a P/U a few years ago with 2 tanks ,used to run one tank dry , then switch .. Did it 3 times /then the pump failed .. Never ran dry after that /never changed another pump . 200 miles on the Prowler tank is all you will get /less if you are Pushing it /or have ProwlerPro gears.

Twice, out on the road, I've reached the 290 mile mark before stopping to refuel. Had less than 1 gal left in tank. I don't reccomend that, just sometimes I'm enjoying the drive and am out in the middle of nowhere. I prefer to fuel in the 200 mile area.

The furthest I have had it down to was about 1/8 or a tank... when I filled it, it took over just 9 gallons. So I have 3 to play with.

Also... one of my buddies used to always run out of gas when we were young. The car would spudder to a stop. He would remove the key.... count to 30... put the key in and it would start and go another mile or so. He did it three different times with me in the car! Very wierd!
