Hi all, as you can see I’m new here; so, take it easy on me… I bruise easily. Ok, well… on to the questions I guess. Firstly, how many of you drive your Prowler daily? Because, if I were to get one I would be driving it to and from school and/or work. Secondly, my father is trading in his Corvette on a car for me. So, I went up to him and told him that I really liked the Prowler, and that I wanted to go test drive one and maybe get that for my first car. To which he replied, “No, we already have a 2-seater car. If you want something like that then you can take the Z3 sitting out in the driveway.” To which I then replied, “But that’s totally different though. I don’t want the Z3. It’s a little nothing car. I don’t want a car that small… I want something a ‘bit larger, and with a ‘bit more power.” He then proceeded to tell me that I have “**** for brains;” but that’s beside the point… lol. So, I guess what I’m trying to get at is this: Can any of you guys think of any ways I can prove to my dad that this would be a better car, or anything I can tell him to get him to side with me? I’m not really quite sure what to say to him at this point… and if I don’t say anything I’ll most likely end up getting a new Mitsubishi Eclipse or a V6 Firebird or something of that sort, which would be horrible… those cars just aren’t my style, and they definitely don’t perform very well. I guess I’m just a sucker for hot rods? :shrugs: Ok, well, thanks for any and all help you may provide me. ~Evan |

Evan, First of all WELCOME! The best way is money, both in terms of overall costs, maintenance, warranty and insurance! Do a little homework and show him the black and white figures. ------------------ |

Evan - First of all welcome to the website!! Although a minority, there are quiet a few of us that drive our Prowlers as our primary vehicle. I, personally have put over 23,000 miles on m ine since last May. One thing you might mention to your dad is that insurance is inexpensive. I pay only $40 more (6 months) than on a Sebring Convertible I use to drive!! Also, fuel mileage is good due to V6 and light weight. If you get to test drive a Prowler, have your Dad meet you somewhere in a public parking lot - restaurant, shopping center, Home Depot - with the Vette and/or Z3 and just sit in the parking lot. Then he'll understand once he sees everyone's reaction. Happy Prowling Marty ------------------ Driving my Dream |

Thanks for the quick response Gene. Um... do you know anywhere where I can start looking for these numbers? lol Also, Gene, do you own an RV and/or or have gone down to Palm Springs at all with it? 'Cuz my dad and I used to go there a lot and there was a guy there named Gene who everyone called Mean Gene lol. He had a Prevost. Ok, thanks again for the quick response. ~Evan |

While I and most Prowler owners did not buy our cars for an Investment. My car is 3 years old. The MSRP was 40K. I checked the appraisal guide (now listed in exotics) just the other day and my car is valued at $35,900 (no + or - adjustemnt for mileage) . Ask your Dad how much the Z3 did or will depreciate in 3 years. Also now that they have stopped production I only see the value going up. This might help win your Dad over. To put things in perspective a week after we bought the Prowler we bought a 99 Deville for 40K. Its value now is somwhere around $18,000 with 49,000 miles on the odometer. That is just over 16,000 miles a year. I hope that helps. ------------------ |

Evan, The maintenance on BMW's is $$$$, depreciation fair, but depending on your age(my guess is 20's)insurance is huge $$$ ------------------ |

Ok, so let me get this all straight... the maintenance on the Prowler is fair (but not as expensive as one might think), the depreciation of the value is very small AND the insurance isn't much more than a Sebring, lol. Also, since I've got over a 3.0 GPA in school the insurance company told my dad, or at least from what my dad told me, that if I have these kinds of grades that they can cut my insurance by almost half. I don't know if this is true or not... but, it sure would help. |

In my 20's and insurance is 2K year round (I only insure it half the year). That's in New England...though. I had a similar ordeal with my parents when getting the prowler. My parents didn't like the idea of me buying such an expensive car. In the end it was my money to spend, not theirs (a little different situation from yours). But my parents love it now...My mom keeps pictures of it in her purse. As far as driving it to school goes...I wouldn't. This message has been edited by ProwlerOrange2001 on 02-28-2002 at 02:06 PM |

Um... lol Al. Well guys, so far your info has seemed to be a great help. I just threw the idea at my mom, told her all the info and everything, and she didn't seem to really think it was a problem. I think I've got her to side with me. Wouldn't that just be wonderful? lol Now, I just have to wait until my dad gets home... ~Evan |

Hello, As afather of three teenagers, i'll give you a different angle... there are afew companies that will rent out a prowler for a day. ask your dad to take one out for aday, and after 10 minutes of driving I bet he'll be hooked and then you could just take HIS prowler. Welcome Mike |

Evan I live in Simi Valley just over the hill from you. Why don't we hook up and show your father the real thing. I could stop by and he and I could go for a ride. (You and I will go out afterwards.) Don't rent one, lets see what we can do to convince him. Dan G....:smilewaveflag |

That is also a very good idea... I'll run it by him tomorrow, along with all the information I now know about the Prowler; and hopefully we'll go from there... I hope. If all goes well I'll pm you tomorrow or something. ~Evan |

A friend of mine also had a great idea. My grandpa has been promising to give me his copy of Action Comics #1... so, if I could somehow get him to give it to me now then I wouldn't have to bother my parents about buying the car. I could just go buy it myself. I'll have to talk to my grandpa tomorrow also, lol. Oh... also, about the insurance of the car. I don't really think telling him the insurance will be low will really do anything. Seeing as how I'm only 16, turning 17 soon.. the insurance'll be high on whatever I get. ~Evan This message has been edited by evopanop on 02-28-2002 at 11:43 PM |
