Hello everyone,
I've been a hopeful for quite some time now. But, I think I'm one step closer to acquiring my very own Prowler. I do however need your help. I'm looking at a 2000 Silver Prowler with a list price of $32,500 with 28,000 miles. Is this a good price? How do I negotiate for a better price?
Does any of you use your kat as a daily driver? I'm asking because if I do get this car it will be my daily driver. Is it costly to keep the maintenance on these vehicles? Any information for a hopeful Prowler owner would be appreciated, thanks.

As far as a daily driver that's how I use mine. Take it to work every day and then drive it any chance I get!! Bought mine in June of last year, just now turning 7,000 miles. No problems.

Love every mile and smile...

Are you set on a Silver cat? If not look around and find a new one for a few thousand more and you will have a new car and a 3 year warranty. The prices are pretty soft right now.

I think you need to think twice before using a Prowler as your daily driver. If your commute is short, it may not be a problem, however, the car is cramped, visibility with the roof up is horrible and the ride is pretty stiff. The car is noisey and I wonder how well it handles in bad weather. I do really love this car but if I had to drive it everyday, I think that 'love' would turn to 'like' pretty quickly.

Tom - in my case your statement is absolutely NOT TRUE. Bought my car in May 2001 with 1800 miles on it. It now has close to 24,000. Sure, something with some storage capacity would be nice on occassion. It handles rain, snow as well as a Corvette, Mustang, Camaro, or two wheel drive pick up for that matter.

Driving my CAT is my daily therapy - with top down even better. For me it is either drive it as my primary vehicle or not own one at all.

To each their own, as they say.

I would only be driving 10 miles each way five days a week. My concern also is how it drives during rain and snow.
I was able to test drive the vehicle and I just fell in love. It is pretty noisy but the faster you're going the louder the radio so that takes care of that. I'm a short guy so the space doesn't really bother me.
Now it has 28,000 miles on it. The back tires looks like they need to be replaced. Would this be something that the dealership should take care of before selling it? Also, with the milleage in mind, what maintenance should have already been done? I'm still negotiating a lower price for it since it does have high milleage. Wish me luck and thank you very much for your input.
One more thing, on their booklet for Chrysler warranty, they have 5 years 60 miles for $2690 with $200 deductible. Is there somewhere else I should be able to get this at a cheaper price? Again, thank you very much.

I have only driven mine in the rain 5 times at the most, but much of that was on the highway. No Problems. Warning many if not most Prowler Tops leak over the side windows.
No experience in snow sorry. My Kat has 14,000 miles and the tires look good as new. I can't imagine them being worn out at 28,000. If you are going to have to replace tires you might consider non run flats. It will ride much better or so I am told.

I drive mine every day! It is really the one ray of sunshine that I look forward to. I've had it in a heavy rain and it felt real secure. It has an annoying leak where the side window, top and windshield come together. As you might guess, there are rooster tails to the rear and two towers of water from the front tires. I imagine that from the outside it looks like you are in your own cloud!

ProwlerHopeful, Not that there is anything wrong with the car your describing or the mileage; there are several new 2000 and 2001 prowlers in your area. The plymouths may qualify for the $8500 dealer incentive and you can likely get a new car for only a couple of thousand more. Is silver your first choice? Also, the last black tie is listed on ebay; that will run a bit more, maybe quite a bit more!
There are 2000 silvers in Lebanon, Paris Tn, Kenai AK, an orange (my fav) in Clarksville and Kingsport, a 98 purple in Union City GA. Oh that's closer to me, sorry.
Good Luck,
Gordon

Thank you all for all the responses. Where do I get more information on the $8500 incentive that Superkat is reffering to?

The $8500 is a "kickback" to the dealers from DC and they are not necessarily going to tell you about it. It only applies to PLYMOUTH Prowlers and not the newer Chyslers. This is for untitled, new, unsold Plymouths. You have to find the cars yourself and negotiate knowing they are getting a refund from DC. If you know anyone at a dealership, ask them to do a search in their computers to see what is available in your zone.

BY clicking the link to yahoo autos that Gary C. posted. I saw a silver 2001 w/ 3000 miles. It's listed at 20k does anyone know anything about this car? I tried the free car fax report. Turns out the only thing free about it, is clicking that first button. Thought I check in here first before clicking that second (20$) button. I have sent email to the dealer, I have tried calling but always get a busy signal.

This thread caused me to call my Chrysler dealer back, after backing off from a Mulholland deal a few months ago. I need a trunk! I have guitars and amps I have to haul!

I hold Marty Usher responsible for this whole 'yes a Prowler as a daily driver will work in KY' attitude...

;-)

Will keep you posted...

Prowlerhopeful.......Ed is correct about the $8500 incentive between the dealer and DC. When DC phased out the Plymouth brand, the dealer has an option to have DC buy any unsold Plymouth brand vehicles they have in inventory. With regard to the Prowler, DC has offered them an $8500 incentive to keep the vehicle and sell it themselves. Ed is also correct in saying that if you want to purchase a Plymouth Prowler, you would have to negotiate a price with the dealer with the incentive in mind.

The Chrysler Prowlers still qualify for the Friends Program Certificate. This program allows you to buy the Chrysler Prowler at 1% under DEALER INVOICE, plus a small administration (paperwork) fee. The dealers do not have to honor this program, however. It is a great deal....just ask Topcat!!!!
