I really don't know of a negative side but here is a postive side to them.

"Some of the most common complaints about today's vehicles are brake noise, vibration, harshness and unsightly dust accumulation on vehicle wheels." said Mike Zissman, Director of Friction Product Development. "The O.E. solution is to equip late model cars with a new type of brake friction utilizing ceramic materials. Raybestos® Quiet Stop disc brake pads are made from an exclusive and innovative ceramic formulation."

The Quiet Stop line is neither semi-metallic nor NAO (non-asbestos organic), but a new friction blend made from ceramic ingredients instead of iron fibers and steel powders, which are found in semi-metallic pads.

These disc brake pads are 100 percent shimmed, slotted and chamfered to provide ultra quiet braking, low dusting, exceptional durability, resistance to fade and rapid recovery.

"It took three years to develop the ceramic formulation that is behind Quiet Stop disc brake pads," said Alan Morrissey, Vice President of Product Development. "Our formulation went through rigorous fleet and vehicle testing to meet durability, stopping distance and noise requirements. The results were outstanding."

The Raybestos® line offers 84 Quiet Stop disc brake pad part numbers with coverage for late model domestic and import passenger cars and sport utility vehicles.
* Ultra Quiet
* Low Dusting
* Long Life
* Quick Recovery
* Fade Resistant
* Ultra Smooth Braking
* 100% Slotted
* 100% Shimmed
* 100% Chamfered
* Revolutionary Ceramic Enhanced Formula

Ceramic brake pads - The front pads that have been mentioned on the discussion boards may indeed cause less brake dust but what, if any, performance testing has been done to verify that the braking characteristics will not change? Normal braking conditions may not be an issue, but panic stops, brake fade or front/rear balance, etc., could be affected.

The rear pads are another issue as the rear rotors are a metal-matrix composite aluminum, one-piece casting. Any trace of iron in replacement pads will score the rotor surface to the point of replacement. The service manual is very specific on pad replacement in that the replacement pads must be factory pads or pads that meet the original manufacturer formulation.

I believe it has been proven in the field over the past couple of years that the ceramic pads stop as good as the OEM pads.

As stated above, the rear rotors could be damaged as they are cast from a composite aluminum, unlike the front rotors.

If you hate cleaning brake dust off wheels every time you run to the store or just for a short cruise as bad as I do, you'll wish you had already changed them over. Best pads ever!

Have put them on the front of both of our prowlers and have not noticed anything negative. They definitely stop at least as well as the others.

I highly recommend them.

For the $60-$70 it costs for ceramic pads, and the approx. 1 hour it takes to install (including beer breaks), it's time and money well spent to save you from hours and hours of cleaning that dark brake dust off your wheels over the life of the regular pads. I've noticed no difference in braking and really see no negative effect of doing this. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
