There were a number of people who expressed an interest in coming to Detroit for the North American Auto Show this year.

I have spoken again to Sylvia at CAAP and she has agreed to let us have a plant tour on Friday, Jan. 18. This is the Friday before the last weekend of the auto show. This, of course, will also include a visit to the Corner Store at the plant.

It had also been discussed that if a tour could be arranged, we could also get together to see the show, go to dinner, and whatever anyone would like to plan for the weekend.

I need to know, as soon as possible, how many people would be interested in attending this tour/auto show weekend. Either post on this thread or email me if you plan on attending.

Thanks!

CJ,
I expressed some interest for Feb. but Jan 18th is not enough notice for me. I really would have like to have made it though...

Kozican.......this tour is planned based on the Auto show attendees and their request for a tour.

I am still working on the CAAP tribute in February. If I can put that together, then perhaps you can attend? Don't give up yet!

Ed, haven't finalized a time yet, but it is usually about 10:00 a.m. Probably no earlier than 9:00 a.m. Will let you know asap!

Great Job in getting the tour set up!! Wow what short notice (next week)
But I guess if this will be the last opportunity to see our Prowler in Production it will be like a once in a lifetime experience.
This is really something i want to experience.

Can we bring a camera or video???

I really would like to go. Flights are around $300 from Philly. I'm sure that hotels will be expensive also due to the car show. I hear that the Detroit show is great.
Where exactly is the plant? If the tour is early that would mean getting in Thursday night. I would stay Sat for Car Show leave on Sunday.
I 'm off next weekend and think I may be able to make it!!
Anyone else going?? We will need to make accommodations fast!!
Any ideas of place to stay????

Trey

I realize that this was short notice, but timing was not good. Many of the plant staff and line workers were off during the holidays due to the shut-down of the Prowler production for that time frame. Prowler production will start again on Jan. 14 and end on Feb. 15.

So, yes, Trey, the Deep Candy Red Prowler will be in production for the tour on Jan. 18. Cameras are allowed for sure, I will check on video. I don't think so, though.

I can help with hotels. CAAP is not near the downtown Detroit area, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem. I have one in mind that we used for Dream Cruise. It is close to where I live and is an easy drive to the plant. It is also right next to the interstate that will take you to the Auto Show!

If anyone is coming that needs hotel reservations and would like to stay outside of the downtown area, let me know and I can help with getting a good rate. Please email me and let me know arrival and departure dates. I will call tomorrow for rates!

Wonderful news CJ. We will get some info on airfare tomorrow. Now for the dumbest question from the southern contingent; any idea on the weather? My wife and I would likely stay in the area of the plant or your place.

CJ,

How about something with a little more notice. I have about 20 people (New England + FL) interested in going on a tour of CAAP while it is full production... but I need to give them some notice so they can make flights and hotel plans. I would like to do a CAAP tour while the plant is in full production. I was thinking Friday FEB 1, 2002! That will give us ALL enough time to plan our flights and hotel. PLus this will allow us to plan a nice dinner Friday evening.

Thoughts?
Ideas?

Thanks CJ- What airport should we fly into and what hotels are close to the plant? This would be my first time up there and would like to know what area the plant is so I can try to get a room close by. I guess I will have to break down and buy a coat?

I am sure CJ will give you more detailed directions. The plant is near the Detroit CITY Airport, not to be confused with the big Detroit INTL. airport. It is east of I-75 and north of I-94 if you want to look at a map and get a general idea of its location.

Chris, I do not know if they have commercial flights into the city airport. I was pointing out the city airport as a landmark so you could tell approx. where the Conner Ave. Assy. Plant was located. Sorry I confused you. My fault. Where in Jupiter do you live? We have friends who live just off A1A just south of the main cross st but I can't think of the name of the street. Sandy's sister lives in Jupiter Farms near Burt Reynolds old place. Her twin sister just moved to Jupiter but I am not sure where, exactly, as I haven't been down there yet.

CJ, count us in (2). We already have tickets to arrive on the 18th at 8:30am from St. Louis. Was planning on returning home at 6:30pm the same day. Will reschedule return flight for Saturday morning.

Really appreciate your efforts to visit CAAP again.

TreyB, the plant is actually in Detroit, on the east side slightly north. It is near the CITY airport if you have a map, you can get a general idea of where it is located. That is NOT the big airport.

Looks like you can count us in. Two of us will likely be attending unless sonemthing odd happens to my airfare. $133 from Atlanta. Were told you can walk to the Auto Show from Renaissance center; considering the Marriot, $79.
What do you think CJ?

Geeze......you guys don't give me any breaks, do you?

First of all, please remember that they are granting permission for this tour as a favor to us.

Okay, this is the plan........

1. I need to know how many of you plan on being here for a couple of days. If so, we can fit in a couple of other things.

2. I am shooting for the plant tour for 10:00 a.m. I will confirm that tomorrow.

3. I am checking into several hotels for group rates up this way. If you choose to stay downtown, it is within walking distance to the auto show, but not to the plant. If you choose to stay downtown and are driving up to the plant, you will have to contend with early morning rush hour traffic.

4. We can do the plant tour on Friday morning. Lunch at a restaurant can follow. We can also fit in the Walter P. Chrysler Museum in the afternoon. Dinner in the evening.

5. We can attend the Auto Show in the morning on Saturday. Dinner in the evening.

SuperKat......not a dumb question regarding the weather. Unfortunately, weather here is pretty unpredictable. I will be better able to tell you that as it gets closer to that date. It was 49 here today, which for here is a heat wave this time of year! You don't want to stay in the area of the plant. And if you really want to stay at my place, I have a couple of extra guest rooms! lol!

Al - I'm sorry to hear about your broken collarbone. I have an idea on how I might be able to help you. I will let you know.

Just some thoughts, let me know what you would like me to plan on, so I can make proper arrangements. I will post more info tomorrow night.

CJ, I should reword that! Near your place; I bet your picking Bob off the floor by now. The whole group is headed your way. The plan sounds great; we will be leaving Sat night but lunch or dinner Friday is super. Cannot wait to see the plant and museum.

CJ,

My wife and I are planning on joining everyone on Friday the 18th. Probably wouldn't drive in until late Thursday evening, and will head back out Saturday morning or early afternoon (won't be attending the Auto Show).

Look forward to meeting you and the other attendees!

Ed-
Talk about confusing: I live in Eagle Ridge which is in Indian Creek in Jupiter. The food delivery drivers hate me because they always get lost. I am just east of I-95 off IndianTown Rd. The development of your friends I believe is Jonathan's Landing which south on A1A.

CJ-
I would like to buy 2 silver pillows while I am up there if possible? I am flying in Thursday at 12:30 PM and staying at the Fairfield in Romulus till Sunday. My secretary got so excited that I am going out of town that she made all the reservations by the time I came in today. I guess this will be a vacation for her as well. Ha Ha
Looking forward to meeting everyone and seeing the plant / auto show.
